Things we miss from our childhood

Two of my other strongest memories were watching the subs move around the Fantasyland lagoon and the Skyway.

I remember a ton of my childhood revolving around imagining what was in that lagoon (they couldn't get me on the subs, I know that makes no sense). In my mind I remember thinking it must go down forever, and I honestly thought it somehow connected to the ocean from the middle of a theme park. I was fascinated by it.

The old backlot tour with the Golden Girls house and all the cool props, the Stars and Motercars parade at HS, the "random" sightings of characters walking around the streets at HS before the new M&G's, Dixie Landing resort. Seeing as im only 21 my childhood wasnt too long ago so i never got to experience a lot of what was already mentioned.

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
bah, my bad i just see someone mention two animatronic shows and I totally forget what this thread is all about... :ROFLOL:

My childhood memories (still in childhood just to let you know :animwink:)....

#1. Back when I was like 3 or 4, my parents had told me that I never gave up my binky for anybody. If my mom or dad tried to take it I would scream. But when we went to WDW I handed Mickey Mouse my binky! :D

#2. My favorite thing to see at EPCOT when I was up until 7 years old, was Food Rocks. I didn't understand it and haven't heard the songs till dad started listening to the radio, but the talking food amused me. When we went to the land pavilion to go see Food Rocks, it was gutted with the wall "Soarin', coming soon", and I was about to cry. lol

#3. Going into the Enchanted Tiki Room UNM when I was like 6 or 7 and coming out my dad saying "That wasn't as good as the original", and I had said "I thought that was the original!"

#4. When I was young, I had gone on Tower of Terror and after getting off a vowed never to go on it again as long as I lived. In 2008 I took two friends to WDW, Will didn't want to go on it but John Robert did and my mom forced me to go with him. I was scared half to death but when I got of I was like "THAT WAS AWESOME!"

#5. This is the best memory I have. My dad likes to sit at the coffee shop and read while me and my sister go around doing stuff. Wonders of Life was the perfect pavilion to do that. I would run around to the exhibits, go on Body Wars and went on Cranium Command a zillion times. We sometimes stayed there until park closing. Me and my sister walked into Cranium Command when future world was about to close so it was just me and her. We walked in and sarge had said "You two children, where are your parents!?!" hahahahaha

#6. Wanting George Washington's autograph at the hall of presidents.

#7. Going to see the country bear jamboree then going outside to see one of the bears taking autographs and wondering why he isn't in the theatre.

#8. Riding back and forth on the tom sawyer raft.

#9. Having daddy take me out every time I went on alien encounter

#10. Wondering why I couldn't have any of the drinks my parents had at the food & wine festival.

More then anything I miss going to the parks with my Grandparents, Aunt, Uncle and my cousins. Since we were all 3 years apart including my sister after a while we would all be split up in different areas, one minute I would be with my parents and the other I would be with my cousins going on all the thrill rides but without fail we all rode Journey into your Imagination and it wasn't an option plus it was the best pavilion in Epcot. I still remember waiting in the old que area and looking at the euros, then we would run thru the light tunnel over and over again and after that we were at the fountain until it was time for Illuminations.

Now really when I think back about my trips to Disney as a youngling there is one attraction that i really recall that I loved so much and that was Horizons. All I wanted to do was get out and walk around that attraction, I just loved it. I am so glad I found a website where some guys did just that.

The things I miss most at Disney from my childhood are:

-Dreamflight, Horizons and World of Motion
-The ORIGINAL Journey Into Imagination and the fountains outside that shot water out one pipe and across into another pipe (They may still have these but I haven't seen them!)
-Mr. Toad's Wild Ride (one of my favs!)
-When Toontown was Mickey's Birthday Land and the characters were just out and about, not station to certain M&G areas (Watched a family video from Mickey's Birthdayland in 1992 and I laughed thinking how the characters could never do this now!)
-The Skyway
-At least once every trip, riding in the front of the monorail
-The ONE character breakfast they had was at Disney Village (now Downtown Disney) on the Empress Lilly riverboat. We always ate there once a trip.
-Resort themed merchandise!!!!
-The strawberry swirl at Enchanted Grove in MK. I always got one of those when we sat on the curb in the central hub waiting for Spectro

I miss having a West Center Street. I remember taking pics back there with my parents with all the flowers. I love to tuck into a corner on East Center street and get away from the crowds and listen to the singing lessons.

I also miss Residential Street. I would get soooo excited seeing the Golden Girl's house.

In general, I miss going to Disney with my family. We went for a week every summer and it was always fabulous. Now that I'm an "adult" I'm looking forward to creating memories and traditions w/ my girls. With that said, I miss....

1. The original Disney Village and Vacation Villas AND character breakfast on the Emperess Lilly
2. Kitchen Kabaret
3. Figment
4. Arcade and movie theater in the Contemporary
5. Mr. Toads Wild Ride
6. Mickey head shaped butter
7. 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea
8. 3 Pigs and Big Bad Wolf. I miss the characters roaming around the parks.
9. Backlot Tour tv show sets. I love the Golden Girls!!

I, as well, was born in the mid-80's but only went once as a kid in 1992. I wouldn't go again until 2007. I only had vague memories of what I experienced as a kid there. But, I guess the main things were:

1) The smell of my plastic Mickey Mouse poncho
2) River Country
3) Typhoon Lagoon (it's not gone, but I loved it as a kid and did again in 2007)
4) The fleeting memories of various places that I couldn't confirm until I returned (i.e., memories of certain spots that I couldn't exactly place. Some I could confirm when I returned and others, because the attraction is gone, will just be a mystery)
5) Not being concerned with money and time while visiting
