Trip Report There's Something About Mary...and it's called DRAMA!

I think it's time to get this thing started...hoping it will help my mood and sanity levels. For those that missed the PTR (http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/lawdy-lawdy-look-whos-turning-40-ptr.867181/) - the early pages should help you catch up on the bulk of the big details, and for those that missed our problems from day 1 of our trip (http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/how-not-to-start-your-wdw-vacay.873853/ )...well, it kind of speaks for itself.:( I am going to try and keep this as upbeat as possible, but we have a very long road ahead to fix things...so, please bear with me as I vent in between some of the magic. :)

September 18th

I left work early on the 18th so I could pick up the girls at school and have them with us when we took our dog to get boarded. This is our Daisy Doggy...
074.JPG

What's really funny, the pic above was taken with Sammie's Fisher Price plastic kiddie camera!

After getting the dog situated at boarding, we went home, had some dinner, and the heavy duty packing started. I'd actually started packing my things on the 17th, but now it was time to really focus on the girls. I let them sleep in the guest bedroom that night so I could pack all of their stuff without keeping them up...i.e. so I could pack all of the surprise outfits without spoiling anything.;) It was A TON of packing, but I finished up around 1am. I had thought about setting up the outfits and bags in the guest room for the reveal, but Sammie got up to use the bathroom right around that time- soooooo, I decided to wait until just before the big reveal.

September 19

I guess I got close to 4.5 hours of sleep (good for the night before a travel day)...and at 6am, it was finally time to set up and reveal the big secret. I got everything set up and then DH came in to help me. The video I took is pretty awful and sleepy girls don't make for really good surprises, but this is the vid I took and I swear...they were REALLY happy.

You can all now probably appreciate what it's like getting these two up for school each morning.

Actually, the girls were super quick to get dressed once it really sunk in what was going on. They were even good with posing for pictures before hitting the road...
9924749463_db7fbda884.jpg

We loaded up my SUV and hit the road...sadly, we wouldn't get far. The accident took place about 2.5 miles from our house. I really don't want to rehash all of the scary details, but when we realized we'd all be able to walk away from this horror - we had to decide if we'd continue with this WDW trip. While the girls' initial screams and cries were from the accident itself, they morphed into cries that they wouldn't get to see their grandma and grandpa. We usually try and visit every 3 months, but we pushed it a bit longer b/c of this trip. It was for this reason DH and I decided to push forward with the trip even if the odds weren't in our favor. I guess I just figured getting everyone to "the most magical place on earth" could be therapeutic. Don't get me wrong...I love that the EMTs and lead sheriff on the scene were super lovey with the girls :inlove: - they really needed something super positive...so, Disney it was!

So, after I took care of the most important initial phone calls, I got Southwest on the line (at the scene of the wreck) and started working with them to rebook the outbound flight. We were yelling over ambulance sirens and traffic, but after about 20 min, we were rebooked from our 9:15am departure to a 3:55pm departure. They also said DH could ask for a blue card for pre-board (we were now in group C after paying to be in group A on the original flight)...while it's gotten better, he had some leg pain that day and was limping from the aches. The timing also worked well since it gave me time to go to the collision center, talk to the various insurance companies, etc. My wonderful MIL was also kind enough to pick up DH and the girls from the scene. This enabled him to get his car and she was able to love on the girls for a while until we were ready to regroup and get travel plans rolling again.

While our flight out of Houston was delayed close to 3 hours due to weather and mechanical issues (not helping Kendall, who was now terrified that the plane would crash), but we got off the ground a little after 6pm and we were on our way...

9924756273_281dbbc4e9.jpg

Sammie sat with DH on the way to FL-- with Pooh, of course...
9924657494_bc33e6d210.jpg

I had Kendall...
9924579545_9f192d5e78.jpg

...and we spent the entire flight doing this big word search on her tablet.

9924651404_e1738fda8b.jpg

We flew into terminal A and DME is in terminal B. It was after the girls' bed time, so we opted to just get our baggage. Soooooo, we went down to terminal A baggage and then lugged it over to DME in terminal B. Thankfully, Kendall has overcome her fear of escalators, so minus losing her shoe for a while on one of them  we were in good shape.

I think the CMs manning the DME entrance could read all of the stress and worry on my face, because they promised me pixie dust and magic from that point on. :D We had our Magic Bands on at this point, but I had my vouchers out so in the interest of time and sanity, they just used those. They directed us to the line for AKL and while we were let on the bus right away...we were so late that the bus was accommodating a number of resorts from various lines. Still...Kendall and I wound up with this prime spot!

9924661334_a5f37400c7.jpg

I swear, I got choked up when I looked up and saw the screen...like that "we're really on our way" moment.

9924619886_389c274cb7.jpg

It took a while for them to load up the bus since they were waiting on people to come in from all of these late or delayed flights, but it wasn't long before we were off.

Love Hallowishes fireworks pics! I've seen it twice and the first time I really didn't like it but the second time it was better. It's beginning to grow on me. And Boo To You is my favorite parade now that Spectro is gone.

Sammy and Kendall look super cute in their costumes! I agree with you on the LeFou's Brew. It's good, but not great.

So funny about the pin in Kendall's underwear! What are the odds it would say "This is not a pin" on it?! lol

Those Hallowishes firework pictures are really good!

Thank you :)

No lie Hallowishes and the Boo to you parade are my absolute favorite! The headless horseman is so AWESOME!!! I love the grave diggers too when they scrape their shovels on the ground and the sparks fly. Yes, yes I know its the little things in life that make me smile! LOL

We were just at AKL in June and I went to settlement on our new house 3 days after we got home. Talk about a worldwind! Sheesh! Anyway, point of tell you that is I looked into getting two of those rocking chairs for the front porch and holy moly those bad boys aren't cheap! LOL

My DS in 11 and is now in 6th grade, so I know the taking him out of school to go to Disney days are coming to an end. Luckily his school is pretty good with vacations during the school. They just request that he keep a journal while he is away and make up any work missed. Easy enough, but the school work is getting more intense.

We are a football LOVING household... Spend all day Saturday at the football field with DS, then come home and watch college football and Sunday;s are spent watching the Eagles. Even though they are stinking right now, got to support the home team! :)

The Halloween party definitely trumps the Christmas party...by a lot! The Christmas parade is festive, but it just is not nearly as fun as the Halloween parade. I felt the characters were more into the parade (which I'll hopefully get into tonight) and the Boo To You music is just so catchy. I'm pretty sure some of my grave digger pics at least capture some of the sparking. I just had so many parts of the parade that I enjoyed. :) I guess it also helps that we LOVE Halloween. Assuming there's time this weekend...I should be able to transform my yard into Halloween mode by Saturday!

Your Saturdays and Sundays sound a lot like ours...well, except we are in the gym for Saturday morning and then college football the rest of Saturday and NFL on Sunday. Now, I must say...I am a Giants fan:facepalm:...but DH drafted Vick as our fantasy QB this yr and McCoy is also on our fantasy team. Then again...the Giants are so bad this year and my AFC team (the Texans) insists on keeping Matt Schaub (I've been upset about him since they picked him up :banghead:)...so I think I'm going to be a Broncos fan this year. It's not technically being a bandwagon fan if I've been a fan of Peyton Manning from day 1- right?:hilarious: I mean, even though it pained me as a Giants fan... as a Syracuse alum, I cheered on McNabb when he was with the Eagles. It's sort of the same thing...I think. :D

Thanks!!! :) Hallowishes is definitely no Wishes, but it's a lot of fun. I like how Boo To You showcases some elements that you wouldn't normally see in the standard parades.
Definitely fun to get the girls all dressed up. I guess at least I can say I've tried the drink and can speak from personal experience. I haven't even had the real stuff at Uni, but from the home versions, I can say butter beer wins this battle.
I'm still kind of shocked that it was that specific pin. I know she wanted to trade it away, but I think I'm going to have to make her keep it now as a reminder of this.

Great updates. I'm very excited to see MK for my first time for Halloween.

Thanks! I really liked the MK decorations. If anything, I kind of wish there was a bit more across property.

And now it's time for a daily drama update...feel free to skip ahead :)

So, I finally had a lengthy talk with the girl at the insurance co. I think we're moving in the right direction, but I still have to wait on the auto adjustor to see my vehicle and start working with me for them to modify my rental car status to something comparable to my damaged vehicle. And of course the guys at the rental facility didn't consider this when the initial reservation came in, so I get this msg from them about how I'm only cleared for a sub-compact. They're a rental car place in a collision center...surely they've dealt with this before! I also have to wait another 24-48 hrs to find out if they're going to fix my vehicle or total it. There's more, but I want to wait until we talk to the lawyer to see where we're going with those things. I'm frustrated, but yet today felt like there was progress. That's a good thing :) Still hard to believe that tomorrow will be 2 weeks since this happened and since we left for WDW.

END VENT

OK...so where were we...oh yea... MNSSHP and parade time...

The girls got a little anxious during that lag time between the horseman and the parade, but it wasn’t long before the Boo To You music started up. Of course, it was a good 3-5 min (maybe longer) from the start of the music to seeing the start of the parade. After a couple of minutes of hearing “Boo to You and Boo to You…” the bulk of the people around us started singing along…some more happy about it- others more annoyed by it. But before long, the parade was here…

10011186704_1e224da9ef.jpg

10011296253_6c2f6d6ede.jpg

The girls were also pretty excited to have a front row view. It would lead to a lot more parade interaction that we've previously experienced at other parades.

10011180415_45211f0c6f.jpg

I was happy that we were on Donald’s side. I remember Kendall yelling something up to him about being my fave and next thing ya know, he’s waving right at me.
10011083754_8c318cd367.jpg

bye-bye Donald
10011065074_1d45c20525.jpg

Sammie has been a Winnie the Pooh fan before her 1st birthday and he’s still her #1, so the Winnie the Pooh section of the parade was her fave. Of course Pooh was on the other side of the street, but she just kept yelling “My Pooh Bear- My Pooh Bear!!!”

10011118986_b4c7047271.jpg

We did at least have pirate Tigger come over to our side and Eeyore also started to shift sides...

10011078396_f0a6b21a7b.jpg

Probably the most active I've ever seen Eeyore...

10011127713_2d7fa9e660.jpg

And of course, Rabbit with Kanga and Baby Roo...

10010991615_c19ee1e858.jpg

Next up…Peter Pan and crew…
10011012416_100a5d3042.jpg

And of course, Captain Hook & Smee…

10010978713_befb661538.jpg

10010822754_dea4f9798b.jpg

Next up – Pirates. The girls couldn’t grasp why the pirates leading the rest of the pirates were twirling flags. I really didn't know what to tell them...so I think I left it at...But doesn't it look neat?!?!?!

After the pirates, we get into the Haunted Mansion section. I think the girls would have run out in the street to snuggle the bloodhound if they could.
10010624506_792ba2c2a2.jpg

10010662193_8ed36d7498.jpg

I think this is my only pic I was able to get where you can see the sparks flying from the grave diggers' shovels.

10010564463_0fbe282fe4_z.jpg

I take that back...here's one more...

10010411924_b94892fe50_z.jpg

I think the music in this portion of the parade is my fave...it just adds a whole level of depth when you add the organ to the standard Boo To You music.
10010432806_beac3b0c2d.jpg

Loved the dancing ghosts from the ballroom.

10010279764_93e8780161.jpg

This was also a big fave with the Haunted Mansion section...

10010293286_999407594e.jpg

Really loved the moon here too...

OK, I think I'd like this next section no matter what they put in it...mainly because I really like it when you hear "Ghost Riders in the Sky."

10010165794_53204d04d7.jpg

10010191286_4208d18908.jpg

I promise you, this is Clarabelle...

10010217273_11cd9d7e93.jpg

The girls got super excited when they saw Chip & Dale...even were yelling out to them...

10010138156_2bff531eef.jpg

It's kind of dark and blurry, but I got this right after Dale came over to them. They were pretty psyched that he was listening...

10010111966_3896de6339.jpg

And I don't know what it is about Clara Cluck, but she was a huge hit...maybe it's all the chicken noises?

10010023884_5fd63dcb8e.jpg

She was waving around like a crazy chicken by the time she was in front of us...so I settled for a shot of the jack-o-lanterns at the bottom.

10010126463_0f88f564a8.jpg

The villains were up next and all Kendall kept talking about was “Shadow Man” – aka Dr. Facilier. It's funny...you go onto any Disney site/forum and he's referred to as Dr. Facilier, but you ask any child who watches the movies and they always refer to him as Shadow Man. Thinking back to the villains show, I think most of the kids around us were like "HUH???" - when they heard them say Dr. Facilier. Not a big deal- just semi interesting to me. OK- back to villains... since we had other villains to get through first.

10009990904_d4b9619692.jpg

The girls are going through a bit of a Hercules phase right now, so Pain and Panic were a big treat.

10010020156_f359aed678.jpg

Hunchback is also very popular with them right now, so they were hoping for Frollo to pop by, but Kendall insists the Sheriff of Nottingham came over and patted them on the heads around this point. That sounds familiar, but if it happened, I didn't get any pics of it.

10009916234_412a3bf59a.jpg

10010024093_c2a3e99f14.jpg

10009890884_da4e4e1b08.jpg

Moving on to the next section of villains...

10010005383_b1768bd1b5.jpg

10009941846_bfd731443e.jpg

Ultimately, he was a crazy dancin' Shadow Man...great for watching, but I probably would have been better off taking video. Regardless, he put on quite the show for the crowd and everyone was going nuts over him.

Love how you get Maleficent in the next few along with Shadow Man...

10009855805_60543a294b.jpg

10009844605_2392d724c2.jpg

And next, the Mistress of All EVIL!!!

10028606196_de05661e6d.jpg

10028533854_3a707d4da6.jpg

In the end, the Evil Queen was the best. We called up to her and told her we had Snow White right here. She abruptly turned, changed her posture, started glaring at Kendall and then pointed…like she was going to get her. It was great! So, Kendall went from thinking Snow White was just OK to the coolest thing ever. Belle is still her fave, but from the various responses at the party...especially the queen...she was thinking it was pretty darn fun to act like she was the real deal.

10028518554_396fa9eec6.jpg

10028505344_5b7638dbbe.jpg

Edit- I was watching a video of the parade earlier and realized that this was also the parade where Brer Fox came over to the girls and gave them high 5s. DH is a big fan of the Tales of Uncle Remus and Splash is always a must...so this was a big deal for them.

The villains section ended up with the hyenas.

10028562846_8936058483.jpg

I really wish they'd bring them out more because I've always thought Ed was just such a riot.

Sad, because when you get to Pluto, you know the end of the parade is near. Yes, I know this was our first time at MNSSHP, but I've watched it many times from my desk.

10028626063_2bccf7d31d.jpg

The girls still think these candy corn pieces are the cones from Toy Story 2.
10028500175_c1aafaa0aa.jpg

And finally…Goofy…the end of the parade…at least we wound up getting something like 5 Goofy’s Candy Co. Lollipops at this point.
10028554973_e284b1abb5.jpg

10028469746_7b342cf3fd.jpg

We also followed Goofy right out of the park.
10028367024_f37df49c40.jpg

I would have loved to get in a few rides before the party officially ended...especially to beat the crowds, but the girls were pretty much sleepwalking out of the park.

10028413085_5d2f861fd8.jpg

The girls had a few moments where they needed to be carried a bit, but our backs were feeling a little sore at this point, so they had to walk most of the way. Come to think of it, I think we tried picking them up earlier during Celebrate the Magic, but we just couldnt take too much of it. Either way, we made it to the bus stop...

10028398565_793823a740.jpg

Both girls were zonked out on the bus ride back to AKL. It was the same mix of carrying and walking once we got back to the resort. Everyone was so tired that it was immediate bed time. I figured we could just give them a quick early bath the next morning before we headed out for our breakfast ADR.

Sadly, we wouldn't get much sleep...or at least I wouldn't. Kendall had at least 3 nightmares that night. She wound up in bed with me and DH...and she was not really interested in giving me much of my side of the bed. And of course it was her night for the top bunk, and I wasn't sleeping up there...so I tried to get some sleep on the little corner of bed that was left. I think I may have gotten a whopping 2 hours of sleep. It was also at this point that I wished we were in a resort room that slept 5...because at least I would have had another place to sleep.

SEPTEMBER 21st

The next morning would be a REALLY EARLY start. We had a 7am breakfast at Chef Mickey's and the CM at registration informed me that the earliest bus for AKL arrives at 6:45am...i.e. there was no way we'd make it to our ADR on time. I have to say, while the bus service was very good at AKL, the added transport time is a bit of a pain at times. We'd also realize the next morning that our room clock was nearly 10 min slow...not good when you're trying to get 2 tired girls ready. I guess at least the girls were super excited about some of the other Mickey/Minnie shirts and pettiskirts, so that helped keep them motivated to get ready. I think we also realized that we didn't have much cash at this point...so another thing to hold us up--- a stop to the ATM. Still, we quickly got a cab and made it over to the Contemporary. We were less than 5 min late and the rest of the family arrived on time...so all was good.

Coming up...breakfast at Chef MIckey's, Cake 1, and Epcot.

I had a feeling those chairs...or even similar ones...would be a chunk of change. They were just so nicely made. So, I may just be looking for a more affordable alternative. :greedy:

I wish our state were a bit more flexible. We start having problems if it's more than 2 days in a 60 day period. The teacher sent home 2 full days of non-gradable work that had to be completed before she returned to school + an hour of independent reading/accompanying reading log. I feel the same way! We been to both parties twice in the past and I just do NOT think the Christmas party is worth it at all! Definitely worth going to once to experience it but after not so much! The hallowween party on the other hand I'll go to that over and over again!

Yeah those chairs were crazy expensive. I have to settle for something a little less expensive :greedy:

My son Devon goes to a private catholic school so I think that may be why they are a little more lenient about vacations, since I'm paying to send him there what can thay really say? My guess is if he went to public school it probably be an issue. But seriously more then 2 days in a 60 day period? Does that count for sick days too? Yeah, not gonna lie, I'm taking him out of school for 6 days when we go in May and I am now I bit nervous. He is a smart kid but making up a weeks worth is going to be tough. I just hope they give me some of the work prior to leavng so we can start working on it before hand.

Yeah the both Giants and the Eagles are looking like trash! The NFC is terrible this year!

All caught up loving it. Your girls are just to adorable.

Thanks :) They can be such little hams!

I just scanned through most of the pictures in this update!!! I want to be surprised when we see the parade for the first time. But I did do some peeking! Looking forward to cake number 1!

I totally understand :) I'm having some pic issues, but hopefully will get that part on here soon.

Oh no poor Kendall!!!! Hey, I'd have nightmares too!!! LOL

Agreed! I think she felt better about it when I told her that I was having nightmares too. Of course, she thought some of mine were funny...made her feel better at least. I think both of us are getting closer to normal sleep patterns. :)

It's funny...for the last few years, I've been trying to pinpoint why MVMCP was a letdown to us. While I'm sure everyone has their own answers to this, for me...I think it's 3 things. 1) Osborne Lights beats anything at MVMCP 2) the daily lighting of the Castle Dreamlights was more exciting and awe inspiring than anything at the party 3) Even just resort hopping to see décor trumped the party experience.

That could be it. I have a couple of friends with children in Catholic schools here and they have very few issues with time away during the school year. Texas is one of a handful of states that instituted really tough attendance laws. I'll spare you the novel on it, but it's pretty strict. It doesn't help that our school has their own interpretations that are even more rigid. Of course only the state part would hold up in court. Hopefully you'll get some of his work in advance....that would make things much better on him.

It really is a very strange football year. We're having the hardest time with fantasy picks just b/c things are all over the place.

Aww, sleepy kids. I love the horseman, I used to work with a horse like that for some training. They are seriously hard to control, and I can't imagine riding without being able to see well. I'd assume the horseman is pretty freaking strong and the horse is very well trained.

It wouldn't surprise me if they rehearse the whole thing over and over again after park closing...especially before the party dates.

Love this TR! Really makes me want to go out for Halloween sometimes. Kendall looks so much like Snow White and I think it's really cute that Sammie dressed up as Spider Man!
Can't wait for more :)

Thanks! I'm glad we had this opportunity...I guess we at least got lucky with a well timed teacher planning day. I'm still so happy Kendall agreed to Snow and Sammie had a chance to be something she really wanted to be. Hopefully posting more in a day or 2...having some picture issues. Thanks for reading :)

Cake.......someone said something about cake.

Definitely cake coming up :) Hopefully I'll get to that part before dealing with the cake I'm decorating next week. Double cake in my life is dangerous!

The Candy Corn were cones from Toy Story at one point. :)

The girls are going to be so happy to know they're right! :D Thanks! I will have to show this to them after school tomorrow.

Ok, so I uploaded the first 200 pics from Sept 21 to Flickr last night, but there are a couple of problems. So, I'm hoping I'll correct it all either by tomorrow or Saturday. Normally I'd be pretty annoyed by this, but it's been a frustrating day for accident issues...so, going back through pics is kind of therapeutic. :)

Count me as another person who loved the Hallowishes pics! The parade pics were great, as well. Never thought I'd ever seen the hyenas from the Lion King in the Halloween parade.

Thanks! I think the hyenas would be a huge hit if they brought them out in the parks now and then. Of course, I think the same could be said for a bulk of the villains.
