Eighth photo pair. Then: August 1978.
Tomorrowland bridge and waterfall towers over castle moat. Swan Boats were still operating, with the Swan Boat dock on the right side.

I know better than to bring up the subject, but here goes anyway.....do you see any strollers on the bridge. (Forgive me)

Now: July 2015.
The large expanses of grass have been replaced with trees, shrubs, and ground cover.

The old entrance to Tomorrowland is honestly breathtaking. Sad I never got to see it in person.

I did see it and even though it was cool to see, it didn't knock me over with impressive. In fact, it was years after they were removed before I even noticed it was different. I guess I'm just not as fortunate as others to commit every detail to memory. Makes my life a lot easier and encumbered by a lot less angst. I was 35 the first time I saw it, so being young was no excuse for me.

Wow, I agree with a couple posters above, I think that waterfall is beautiful. I have seen it in photos a few other times, but this photo really makes it look more beautiful.
I either don't remember it or saw it as a child and didn't care, lol.
But now, I have to say, I would like it back. (I know it's not coming back)
Does anyone know why it was removed?

I'm DROOLING over the original Tomorrowland entrance. It's reminds you of a time when the future was a grand, larger than life idea instead of alien rock forms. Although I still love today's Tomorrowland, I wish I could have gone to the original!

Not sure, but, I think it had something to do with water leakage or possible a water damage situation.

But without a sign saying that you're in Tomorrowland, how did people know where they were? Oh wait, the attractions were actually futuristic back then...
Well, let's look at that a little closer.... Let's see:

Carousel of Progress..... Still there, but never was fully futuristic, mostly historical. Now completely historical.

American Journeys.... 360 movie of current scenes, After the entrance was changed we got Timekeeper and now Monsters. Timekeeper went backwards in time to current. For all we know even Monsters might be in the future.

If You Had Wings.... Past and present Airline history and travel promotion followed by Delta Dreamflight basically the same as Wings. Now it's Buzz Lightyear, which has much more futuristic feel then the originals.

Mission to Mars.... OK, futuristic, but so cheesy that it makes Stitch seem like a production of the movie Cleopatra. Alien really had the same story line as Stitch except scarier.

Grand Prix Raceway... What it is today... it was then.

Star Jets.... Same as it was then only updated with new rockets and background.

People Mover... Exactly the same ride with changed or deleted show scenes. Basically no massive change.

Space Mountain.... Still there, still basically the same.

The point is that the original Tomorrowland was not more the future then today's. In some ways less.

I believe so

Here's some from Magic Kingdom

1983 - it's a small world

Photos from Magic King Then and Now Part 1&2, as well as The Magic Kingdom Skyway - Yesterland. com

Thanks for the photos-I don't know about you, but I prefer the Pinocchio house when it was lighter back then. It looks pretty muted now in the tan color.

Ninth photo pair. Then: Aug 1978. Magic Kingdom entrance. There is a large planter island in the middle of the photo with ample benches, in front of the Mickey-face berm at the base of the train station. Note the people in the walkway between.

006 Aug 1978.jpg

Now: July 2015. The planter island is much smaller now, with entrance stations on the left and right. The benches are gone. Note the large window in the clock tower has been re-configured to display an Imagineer's name.

Tenth photo pair. Then: Oct 1973. Liberty Square bridge. This one photo probably shows more safety changes at Disney World than any other. Besides the trees being smaller, note the construction of the wooden bridge, compared with the recent photo below.

027 Oct 1973.jpg

Now: July 2015. After 42 years, many safety issues have changed construction at Disney World. The new bridge is now flat, vice "arched" in the above photo. The railings have been replaced to prevent anyone from "falling through" the wide railings of 1973. An iron railing was installed on top of the brick wall in the right foreground, adding height to the overall wall. Vegetation-wise, the trees are larger, and ivy covers the outer brick wall, as well as the bridge foundation wall on the right side of the photo.

Eleventh photo pair. Then: May 1974. This Main Street building was originally named "The Cup 'n Saucer" (see the sign on the balcony). Note the full pavement curb along the street. There are hanging lamps under the "porch" ceiling. Although the colors in the photo are muted over time, the building was not as "bright" as today. (There are three smudges on the original print in the center of the photo.) Note the bell-bottom pants on at least two gentlemen!

026 May 1974.jpg

Now: August 2015. This Main Street building is now called "Uptown Jewelers" and recently underwent an exterior restoration this spring/summer. Note the pavement curb has been removed at the corner of the street for safety. The outdoor hanging lamps are gone. More window awnings are present on the building now, as well as multiple flower arrangements and seating on the second story balcony. Hanging flower baskets appear on streetlights now.

Wait...that can't be right! There's the same number of strollers in both pictures! ;)
