Theme park tv wars continue!

Our family had a season pass to Six Flags over Georgia several years back. We only used it once during summer, the rest of the time was during school, on weekends, of course. Why? Season pass rates are so low parents use the park as daycare for their kids during summer. Tons of unsupervised teens, long lines, not worth it for us. And, food prices were higher than WDW.

I have noticed that 'day care' trend too. Maybe a good thing for the kids to be doing? So long as security is heavy. Which it is.

Food prices, at least at the three parks I have been to, are on par as far as fast food tier goes. Six Flags doesn't really have chef tier options like WDW (which are quite expensive).

It doesn't bother me in the slightest and I visit both parks every year with Mrs Mergatroid. For me Universal having fun digs at Disney isn't really a new phenomenon though? At Halloween Horror Nights, the Bill & Ted show regularly had 'lines' in it poking fun at Disney. Some recent ones were aimed at Disney Springs saying all it had was a Sunglasses Hut and big queues. They also had an ongoing line before Pandora opened making fun of the time it took to build saying "Avatarland coming in 2035, if anyone really gives a s#*%".

Well over 10 years ago we were queuing at the gates of Universal early on before it opened. Some of the turnstile operators used to walk up and down the line doing almost a 'routine' of one liners with each other and the guests. Mrs Mergatroid was wearing a Mickey baseball cap that day and they pulled her on it saying stuff like "Looks like we've got one of those rat lovers here today folks" and got people booing at her. It was funny and the guy ended up giving her a hug for playing along as well as a free Universal badge which he suggested she put over 'the rat'.

I've never really witnessed anyone at Disney doing that towards Universal. It may happen and I've just never witnessed it, who knows? As I say we love both parks without any conflict of interest, there's no need for a conflict of interests really. I think Universal find it more natural to talk about Disney than the other way round, but that's just my take and it doesn't bother me.

I noticed the Shrek 4D show was heavy on digs at Disney- I don't know if it's still there (Haven't been to Uni since 2015), but look at the express pass sign inside the holding room. We got a CM/TM/whatever who seemed to moonlight as a Jungle Cruise skipper...

That's in line with the Shrek movies which parody Disney fairy tale and park tropes quite regularly.

I'm not a good a sport as some of you seem to be. Universal saying they're more "grown up" than Disney as though that were a good thing (maybe it is, maybe it isn't), or Sea World claiming they're "real" opposed to Disney ticks me off. Besides being a passholder to Disney, I am a passholder to Universal and Sea World as well, and they have plenty of good things they can advertise themselves with without having to put down Disney or the crowd that goes there. I especially hate jokes about older people who still live with their parents, as though that's an unthinkable thing. I'm 46 and still live with my parents and I'm not ashamed of it. I have mental health issues, and it would not be good for me to live alone.

Neither have to do that in my opinion. Sometimes it is a cute rivalry like when you are on Jurassic River Adventure and you see some Mickey ears floating in the water signifying that a Disney fan was attacked(?) by the Raptors. Maybe it is more personal for Universal, but I always thought it was funny. But when it gets personal like that, who needs it? I prefer this method:

This was 1965 when people reacted to the announcement of Disney World coming to Florida. Start at 9:20 with the Cypress Gardens CEO. They are thrilled to hear it coming because it means good business for everyone. Cypress Gardens opened in 1936 and closed in 2009. I know it was once popular, but it lasted 38 years alongside of WDW so that isn't the reason. Plus LEGOLAND took it's location. But either way, why fight when you can all benefit?

Signature's wrong. Obviously an AA imposter taking care of the news conference while the real Walt gets to work.

I still don't understand the "y." Crazy handwriting but it's nice

I've seen people on reddit confess to being totally confused by the "D", not even recognizing it as a "D", even though it's followed by "isney". The problem for them was that the upright bar didn't connect and close the "D." Well, we now have evidence that at one time the "D" was closed.

Geeze I still remember the days when Six Flags (During the Time Warner Era) Was in spats with Disneyland...Now they don't even mention anything anymore..

It was even to a point how they claim to Be *Snicker* Number 2 in the the Theme Park Industry especially in this ad...

What a terrible commercial. I'm not sure if it's because it didn't age well, if it was terrible, or both.

The Bigger They Are, The Harder They Fall.
And if they fell, they are bug enough to take the reat of the theme park industry with them.

Imagine if Disney folded in Orlando. Tens of thousands of people looking for work would flood the market driving already low (based on previous discussions here) even lower. Tourism would take a hit. It would not be out of the realm of possibility that Uni would be in a world of hurt within a couple of years.

It amazes me that we're seeing more and more WDW and Universal ads on local cable.

You'd think if they were so busy packing in the tourists despite their ESPN blues, they'd save a few dollars on the advertising accounts...

That's a neat poster. What year is that from? Six Flags (Astroworld) in Houston, the place I went every summer when I was a kid, is no longer there. And now we have Fiesta Texas in San Antonio. Too many rides out in the blazing sun and no shade though!

1993-1994...During the Time Warner Era when the Company actually cared about how they incorporate their IP's into the parks...Ever since they sold the parks it is just a Mish-Mash of nonsense making it more Carnival than "Themed" Experiences...
