The worst decision WDW ever made?

Also, although i;m sure it will be amazing, Avatar.... They rushed in to making an attraction about a film that no one talks about anymore...
Apparently there are two sequels coming out. Didn't see Avatar, not excited about Avatar-land, but yes I'll check it out once it's built.

I know there are going to be sequels, I just think it's weird... Like star wars and HP land at Universal... They already proved themselves to be timeless films that will be loved for years where as avatar was kind of a hype.

Just my opinion, i'm just slightly surprised they rushed into making a land based on it. But like I said, bet it's incredible.

I totally agree, seems to have no "Disney" connection or feel to me at all, and as I mentioned above, do 10-year-olds watch it over and over? Does anyone? They should have built Titanic-land.

Will it be a "worst decision"? Time will tell. I think Disney should have got behind "Frozen" much faster and had more merch available. It seems like they have little faith in their own products until they prove to be huge blockbusters, then they overdo it (Jack Sparrow everywhere).

It's a partial realization of a strategy Iger and Lasseter had promised when Disney acquired Pixar, attractions and films opening at the same time.

And yet that's not what happened. I realize that Disney Studios release many films each year but usually there's one big animated feature. Why wasn't something well in the planning stages for "Frozen"? There wasn't even much merchandise in the parks when I was there in early January. Did they have no confidence in the film or did its slow start cause them to put off spending on merch orders and coming up with attraction ideas?

An animatronic Olaf in DL and the M&G with Elsa and Anna, with rumors of a "Frozen" overlay for Maelstrom. For myself, I wish they'd take the Snow White dark ride area and created a Frozen dark ride. It could be beautiful!

Starbucks in the Main Street Bakery. First, they got rid of the cinnamon buns, the CADS! Second, it kills the theme; I don't think Walt's vision of Small Town America included gourmet coffee. Now, some might say, "Hey, what about Coca Cola? That's a big ol' commercial venue, and you don't complain about that?" Well, Coke, like it or hate it, dates back to the 19th century, so yeah, it fits into an image of Turn of the Century America just as well as hot dogs, horse-drawn carriages, baseball, and the like. Caramel frappacinos, however, do not.

Now, one could make the argument that a Starbucks in Tomorrowland would not be out of place, but it doesn't belong on Main Street.

Closing Mr Toad

Many if these other suggestions I wholeheartedly disagree with. Classic Fast pass was a great way to avoid standing on long lines...more time to look around! Classic Test Track is better than World of Motion, and Mission Space is better than Horizons. Epcot is supposed to showcase cutting edge technology, not be a series of slow dark rides.

Oh, and Alien Encounter was completely inappropriate in theme and tone. You can't have a Disney experience without a happy ending!

The point of FP was to reserve your spot in line and then go walk around instead of standing there. I never had a problem with it. In fact, the system worked ten times better for me than FP+ did last week.

Your comprehensive list is worth responding to:
  • Horizons Closing - Mission Space is better, and more appropriate to Epcot. It's supposed to be a technology show case, not a museum of dark rides.
  • Stitch's Great Escape Existing - it's still better than the inappropriate Alien Encounter.
  • Avatarland Announced - Agree
  • Florida Animation Studios Gone - Agree
  • Building Disney's Hollywood Studios/MGM Studios backed up against the highway leaving limited expansion space. - Indifferent
  • Letting SpectroMagic rot away - never cared for it. Main Street Electrical is better.
  • Getting rid of Block Party Bash - the what?
  • 25th Anniversary Birthday Cake - Agree
  • 100 Years of Magic Sorcerer's Hat - Agree
  • Closing Pleasure Island - Agree
  • Renaming Downtown Disney to Disney Springs - who really cares
  • Not Building Beastly Kingdom - maybe
  • Allowing GAC Card abuse to get out of hand in the first place. - your acronyms confuse me
  • Only playing Fantasmic on few nights a week for a few years. Agree
  • Only building 2 Soarin' theaters - to infinite, and beyond!
Not adding Australia, Russia, and Brazil to WS.
Dumbing down Illuninations with that stupid earthglobe. Enjoyed the original, with each country having its theme misic with flashing lights.
New mermaid ride looks cheap and cheesy.

There was Frozen merchandise all over in Dec when we were there but it was flying off the shelves and by NYE it was all but gone. The same goes for discount stores and even JC Penny's, Frozen merchandise is sold out for the most part.

Yeah, there was confidence, or else there wouldn't have been any merchandise. I think everybody just underestimated exactly how popular this movie was going to be.

I think Disney's biggest mistake in Florida was not creating a long-term plan for the Disney-MGM/Hollywood Studios. It wasn't built with mobility in mind, given that more than half of the park (New York Street/Mickey Avenue/Commissary Lane/everything behind the Great Movie Ride) was not originally meant to be accessible to the average guest.

Once they started chipping away at the Backstage Tour to build the Muppet Theater and Voyage of the Little Mermaid, there should have been a "Eureka" moment, like "Hey guys, we might have to do this in the future. We really should come up with a plan now."

This is an opinion based thread just wanted to see what everyone thought.... I think getting rid of the old FP system and filling in the Lagoon and Closing 20,000 Leagues.
I have to agree about filling the Lagoon and getting rid of 20,000 leagues. They kept that area and the submarines at DLR and just changed what you saw on the attraction. It was such a beautiful area at WDW.

I didn't realize it had sold out so rapidly. Must suck for Disney execs to realize how much stuff could be flying off the shelves if only it was sitting there available for purchase.
