The Wilderness Lodge

My next trip to Disney will most likely include a stay within the confines of the Wilderness Lodge. I am a huge All Star Sports fan since I have stayed there 10 times in the last 11 years, but my Dad (who schedules the trips) wants to stay at the Wilderness Lodge. What's the Wilderness Lodge have and how do you like it?:hammer:

for one thing all the rooms are a 3 minute at most walk from the bus stops and dining areas, the theming is tremendous, and the restaurants are great. also, its a 2 minute bus ride to MK at most.

I stayed at the WL last week for the first time. The theming is wonderfully done. If you have ever been out West to any national parks or monuments you'll know what to expect. I have only stayed at WL and the Poly, so I cannot compare anything else.

There are ferries that run between the WL, Comtemporary, MK, and Fort Wilderness. That's kinda neat. I heard busses may come by WL less frequently. I don't know this to be true. The wait wasn't long.

WL is U-shaped. If you're stayed at the end of one of the wings, it can be a very long walk to get a drink at night at Roaring Forks. That was my only drawback, personally. Enjoy your stay!

The WL has a great northwoods atmosphere. You are a boatride away from the MK, Fort Wilderness & the Contemporary. We often take a boat to the Contemporary and then take the monorail to other resorts or Epcot. WL is our favorite resort.

We've stayed there 8 or so times now and we love it! The atmosphere, themeing is wonderful.

There are many threads on the wonders of the WL and a quick search should bring up some good discussions. Have fun!

Thank your Dad and enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!!

You are stepping up two notches on the ladder here.

WL is at the lower end of the Deluxe Resort scale. It is considered the most impressively themed resort on the property.

We always stay here when we can afford it.

It's home.

You will be impressed.

I think I know what you mean by "confines" The rooms are accessable only from the inside, as opposed to the all-stars and moderates where you enter directly to your room.
This was a the ONLY thing I didn't like about the Lodge. Other than that, I LOVED everything else about it, the look, the feel, the atmosphere. It was wonderful. So I was willing to put up with the more common "hotel" feel of having a room off a long interior corridor.

Two Words: Lobby Fireplaces. I have not been able to actually stay here, but the entirety of the lobby has a wonderful northwester woods feeling. Also, Artists' Point is quite the resaurant, too. The atmopshere is very relaxing and cozy. It will be alot different than the All Stars, so I think it will be good to enjoy both on the "different" vybe than one better than the other. Have a magical time!

You'll love the Lodge. When my mom and I first decided to go back to WDW after a very long hiatus, this was the resort we decided on. We love it. We don't stay anywhere else, we never even consider staying anywhere else.

Just came back from the WL 1 week ago today and I already miss it.

GREAT themeing, AWESOME ease of transportation with the ferries that come by all the time, FANTASTIC cast members, BEAUTIFUL decor, and the sister resort (Fort Wilderness) right next door is great too! How can you go wrong? I promise, you'll love it. A bit of advice though? There is SO much to do at the lodge, don't forget to take some quiet time to yourself to just enjoy the beautiful surroundings. I didn't do that enough and now I wish we had. Have a great time and don't forget to buy a refillable mug. They are a great deal and an excellent souvenier too!

(Takes a sip of warm coffee from her WL mug and remenisces about her fantastic vacation at the Lodge...)

We stayed at the WL on our honeymoon and loved it. The theming is just spectacular and honestly, it's one of the best resorts on Disney property. I say thank your dad for wanting to go there and enjoy the trip.

The best resort on property, hands down.

First of all...What does "Hands Down" mean anyway?

...and Secondly, While I respect your opinion, I must disagree.

IN MY OPINION... (So much better than saying "Hands Down" don't you think?)...While The Wilderness Lodge DOES have great theming and some great places to dine, I'll take ANY monorail resort over Wilderness Lodge any time.

I have stayed at Disney's Wilderness Lodge twice and I always felt like I was standing around waiting for something. You have to take either a Bus or a Boat to go anywhere, so I always felt like I was at the mercy of the transportation drivers.

In the Monorail Resorts, the Monorail is right there ourside your door to take you directly to either the Ticket or Transportation Center or The Magic Kingdom.
While you still have to take buses to Animal Kingdom, Downtown Disney, and
MGM from the monorail resorts, I still enjoy the time saved by having the monorail service at my door step.

After having tried several non monorail resorts, my wife and I agree that from now on, we will rotate from one Monorail Resort to the other on each of our Disney Vacations. (As long as we can afford to that is...hehehe):)

Phrasal Verbs: hand down
 1. To bequeath to one's heirs.
 2. To make and pronounce (an official decision, especially a court verdict).
I'll take the WL over the Poly or the Contemporary. We have never had an issue with transportation (and you do have to wait for a monorail to wherever).

We all have different tastes and thats what so great about WDW - there is something for everyone.

The WL is definitely on my list to stay at one of these trips. I've been working my way around to stay at each resort. The difference between WL and AS is simply WL=Hotel and AS=Motel. A hotel has many more amenities, such as sit down restaurants, larger rooms, etc..
