"The Wild"

Valiant was only ditributed by Disney in North America everywhere else had different distributors with no connection to Disney.

Perhaps after the movie bombed in the USA they didn't want to be associated with it.

I thought Valiant was successful in England, that is why Disney brought it to the U.S.

Valiant was a box office tank, and sadly the Wild hasn't done too well in the theaters this week either. It brought in only a little under 10 million opening weekend. IMO Disney HAS GOT TO STOP distributing these low-cost, lack-of-story films. It's bad when you see Disney's name on something that isn't all that good. IMO these mediocre films are not Disney at all, just a film that they decided to throw their name on to try and sell it. It's a shame. Again, just my opinion.

Oh, man, I couldn't agree more!

Took my wife and son to see it last night. I was soooo disappointed. My wife kept saying how HORRIBLE it was--not just the weak story, but the fact that a G rated movie had so many fart jokes in addition to the violence. Meat-eating wildebeests?? Just weird!

I actually got depressed thinking that this is the state of Disney animation. They give up the 2-d animation to make way for the more modern digital animation...but, unfortunately, they also did away with story development.

:( :( :( :( :( :(

Maybe they should have sent it straight to DVD instead of to theaters since they had already lost the race to release it before Madagascar. After buying Chicken Little, I am glad that I did not spend the money to see it at the movies. It did not seem like it had a whole lot to it, but it was cute.

With the Wild, I could see it's downfall just like SGE. The storyline is similar enough to Madagascar that it will get bashed for it, too many bad jokes and a weak opening weekend that shows it will not meet the price of how much it took to make.

Didn't Disney make The Wild and Chicken Little to show Pixar that the company could make CG w/ out Pixar? Then w/ the change in CEO it stopped all that.

Disney didn't "make" The Wild. They only distributed it. Much like Valiant.

Sorry, but Disney did make The Wild... They wrote the story, developed the characters... Only they hired out C.O.R.E. to do the animation... And they worked closely with C.O.R.E. doing the animation.... Disney only distributed Valiant here in the U.S, Vanguard Animation wrote and animated Valiant.... The Wild is a Disney film....

I enjoyed The Wild and I don't think it was like Madagascar. As for Valiant, I own it and love it. As far as Chicken Little goes, I saw it at the movies and pre-ordered it through Disney. I thought it was great.
I know that everyone is entitled to their own opinion and that is what these threads are for. I support Disney and their efforts. I am looking forward to the Disney-Pixar movie Cars. Hopefully, that will be the next success.

I'm not sure where all this information about Disney being the original party to "The Wild" came from...I heard they were pitched the deal and didn't go for it. Disney isn't that fond of taking someone elses ideas anymore (they generally have to fight legal battles somewhere down the road). It was not an original concept developed by Disney, otherwise, they would've made it themselves and if it's 10 years old, then it would've been 2D and not 3D.

Anyways...I got this information from AnimationNation.com and this guy works the industry and had this to say....(I will try to find out further just where this movie started)

"Well, actually. The project is produced by a third company that was originally known as "Pandemonium" who basically outsourced it to CORE. Pandemonium switched names several times, so I'm not sure what they call themselves today (At one time they actually had the name "Trainwreck" :] ).

I'm not sure of the terms of the agreement. CORE may have a financial stake in the film and not simply a service provider. However, I do know that Pandemonium (based in San Francisco) took bids from several companies and CORE basically won the project from Pandemonium. "

"I should of worded that better. CORE was outsourced the CG work. The story/pre-production/development/etc was done at Pandemonium. "

I am trying to find articles on the subject. But the Wild was started and written by Disney. It was well publicized when Disney dropped the project. This all took place many years ago while Roy Disney was still head of DFA.

I've followed Disney Animation for a long time and don't ever remember a project, even a cancelled project with a name or storyline close to this. Now granted I'm sure that I've missed some, but I usually catch them all.

Those guys at AnimationNation.com usually know their stuff tho'. I do remember a studio called Pandemonium from when I first started looking into animation as a career, but don't remember anything beyond their name.

I had heard that it wasn't a Disney story tho' and that it had been developed by a third party creator and then the idea was shopped to various studio including Disney, Dreamworks and Warner Bros. Warner Bros. didn't bite due to major problems at their animation facility and Disney, from what I remember didn't seem interested so they passed on it inititally. Dreamworks agreed and took the story. I think they did story rewrites and resubmitted it to Disney in hopes of getting more money from another company....

I don't know...I just know that I spent my money to go see it...even against my own judgement....:brick:....and wished I hadn't. Ugh.

Yep, that's the same story I've heard as well. To corroborate, I'd like to point out that at the Disney booth at Siggraph '04 (computer graphics/entertainment conference) there was no mention of The Wild whatsoever. On the other hand, there was assorted concept art, paintings, and maquettes from Chicken Little, A Day with Wilbur Robinson (as it was known at the time), American Dog, and Repunzel. I would think that if Disney had created and developed this story on their own it would've shown up in some fashion.
