I am tring to get a copy of the film that use to be part of the Back stage tour at MGM/Disney. Its a film thats about 5 minutes long, about a music teacher that wins the lottery. If any body can let me know where I can get a copy I would be greatful.

Gosh that movie was great. If I’m not mistaken it was also directed by Garry Marshall of Happy Days and Pretty Woman fame. In my humble opinion just as Horizons represented the “original” EPCOT Center, the Lottery represented the “original” Disney/MGM Studios, in that it was entertaining but also took guests behind the scenes and that (to me) was the original mission of Disney/MGM.

I loved that show. They need to get rid of SDsDC and put Monsters in his spot.

Martin Short and Chevy Chase!!! Oh gosh that WAS funny, I miss that show. That show was part of the whole “original” theme of Disney/MGM, entertaining yet informative. You know I wouldn’t mind also having a copy of the David Letterman pre-show - that was always part of the entire experience.

I think more than anything, The Stuidios needs to get back to that aspect. I think they forgot how much audiences actually love audience participation. There's so much more stuff they could do with behind the scenes attrations and shows these days. i'm not a huge fan of the over use of computer animation but how cool and probably funny would it be to watch an audience member get put in front of a blue screen with...I dunno, Dinosaurs chasing him, or watchign him swing around a lightsaber desperately trying to deflect blaster shots or something. I think it's pretty obvious that people are still interested in how movies are made seeing how many dvds have behind the scenes features.

Yes! I totally agree with you. Every big live action Disney film always dumps its sets at Disney/MGM and people love just to walk around them. Why won’t Disney take it further? With all the cheaply produced shows on the Disney Channel, why not produce one on one of the soundstages (it can’t be that hard to return one back to the way it was designed) like they did with the MMC (Mickey Mouse Club)? It seemed that the Magic Kingdom was all about magic but Disney/MGM was about seeing how magic is created in the real world.

I deeply regret having never seen the film. I read the description in Birnbaum but we had two very small children at the time and the original backlot tour ran about 90 minutes, if memory serves.

As to the Monster Sound Show, I GREATLY miss that one too.

LOOK OUT!!!

and the 'king' of audience participation SuperStar Television is just gathering dust. That was such a good show. Why couldn't they just update it? I guess they haven't found a suitable 'Disney' show to stick in there...like they did with Doug Live. Not that I minded that show, it just pales in comparison.

I remember the good old days of MGM.....(in my opinion)

-2 hour backstage studio tour (with Siskel and Ebert says 'two thumbs up for the kids'
-The animation tour when it went in the opposite direction than it goes now
-MMC taping in soundstage 2
-______ Wee Herman and Mel Gibson explaining how sound fx works
-The Lottery
-When in 1990 you weren't allowed to walk on the NY street and they painted the last block in bold colors and recreated a scene from ________ Tracy with actors playing criminals
-The Hunchback of Notre Dame Stage Show
-The Who Framed Roger Rabbit display at the end of the backlot tour
-The Goosebumps exibit
-Sorcery in the Sky Fireworks
-Superstar Television
-The restaurant which is now Playhouse Disney

I have it! I was a tour guide the summer of 1990 and my wife taped me doing parts of the tour. The best film on that tour was Mel Gibson and ______ Wee Herman explaining how they put sound in film.

Look for my `History of Disney-MGM Studios` at Disney Central IRC (in 2 parts) - It has Superstar TV & the MSS in it.

I wish they would do something like that again. View the film and then see how it was made. That is one thing I loved about the Studio.

Although I do believe there was a show of special effects that was done using something from "The Fly".

Can anyone confirm this?

That was part of the original Backlot Tour. The old BT had a tram ride and a walking tour. The Lottery was part of the walking tour. Also, it was a Bee not a Fly. Children would get on the back of the Bee and be video taped and they would do a playback with added special fx.
