I just picked up the Sword and the Stone today (it was released from the Disney vault) and have never seen it before. I haven't really heard much about it before, so can anyone fill me in? Is it any good?

One Little Spark...
It's a cute movie. Not the best Disney movie, but it has some memorable songs and characters.

I thought Arthur was a tad forgettable, but Merlin and Mim (one of the protagonists) are awesome!

I loved it as a kid! Haven't seen it in years though, I should dig it out and show it to the kids. I enjoyed all the Magic scenes and Merlin's songs.

This and Robin Hood were easily my favorite Disney movies as a kid, but looking back the story is very episodic and the writing is spotty.
Some of the animation, though especially involving Archimedes and the wizard's duel is hilarious, and the background art, particularly in the beginning and during the underwater sequence is some of the best Disney ever put out.
One thing that bothered me though (highlight to see, because once you notice it you can't un-notice it)
The kid's voice keeps changing, supposedly because they kept having to switch voice actors as they made script changes after their voices broke.

I just recently also saw this for the first time about a month ago.
Bought a used VHS ( yes, i still use tapes..) cheap as i wanted to check it out.

I enjoyed it.
Nothing overly amazing or immediately memorable, but while watching it is quite enjoyable primarily for the characterizations.
It was somewhat surprising in a good way, but also i thought ended kind of abrupt.

Merlin and Madame Mim are the highlights for sure...as is Merlin's owl Archimedes.
Worth seeing.

Agree regarding the background art. Reminded me a lot of the style done for 'Sleeping Beauty'.
