The Stupid Israelis

I live in Israel and I think that in our little country they are in panic just like you.
Few weeks ago, my father told me that on September 28th we are going to Orlando to visit WDW, Universal and SeaWorld.
The whole month I tried to know everything I can about the next hurricanes.
I was surprised when Jeanne went to Florida, but I was little-bit happy because I heared the it is going to stop today. Yesterday (my clock) I heared that Jeanne has left the central Florida.
Today's morning I open the T.V and there were news. They said this thing: "The hurricane storm Jayne is now hitting the center of Florida..."
In the radio they said: "A new hurricane named Lisa is going to hit Florida soon"
My friends and I had fight, when I tried to explain them the whole true (they think that a TORNADO is going to hit the center of Orlando)
In some forum, someone told that the whole week in Orlando is going to be very rainy with storms, and that the WDW is going to be close all week
Many Israeli people that wanted to go to Orlando next week decided to go to New York, California and Europe and canceled their trip to Orlando

And now some questions:
1. Am I right when I think that Lisa's track isn't near Florida?
2. The WDW is going to be open all week, isn't it?
3. Do you think that people (from all over the world) need to cancel their trip to Orlando?

I promise that I will post as many pictures as I can (if it will be open :) )
If someone want pictures of some attraction - let me know
BTW, there's a chance I can take pictures of the constructions of Everest / Soarin'? How can I?

Thank you,
poogy71, Israel

To answer you questions:

1. You are correct, Lisa is way out in the Atlantic ocean and moving to the north, also Lisa is not yet a hurricane, the winds are still in the mid 50 mph range. Check here for active storms http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

2. WDW should be open and on a normal operating schedule, depending on the level of damage from Jeanne. Just like with Francis and Charley, some of the parks had reduced hours and AK was closed for several days.

3. No, at this point in time, there's no reason to cancel. The weather for the next several days looks really good. Even the long term hurricane and severe weather forcast looks really good. Florida really needs a break and it looks as though they will get one.

To answer you questions:
1. Check in the weather forum. We have a few members that keep track of the current paths of the storms
2. WDW will be open again. It only seems to shut the day that the eye of the storm is near, and has a day of reduced operation the day after, to clear up.
3. No, just keep an eye out. If you are going for 14 days then even a Hurricane will most likely only interrupt you for 2.

...and as for construction pics, you won't get any of Soarin' cause the outside is now complete. Everest you probably will do, just follow the path from Dinoland to Asia(if it is open)

1. According to the storm tracker that is a part of the "Weather Bug" program that I have, Lisa is going straight up the middle of the Atlantic and is not falling anywhere near the US coastline, let alone Florida.

2. As far as I know, the only day that WDW was not open this week was yesterday(26SEP2004). Thunderstorms will not shut down WDW or else it would almost never be open because thunderstorms are a normal part of Florida weather patterns.

3. I don't think they need to, but if I was misinformed and told all of what you said people have been saying over there with no way of confirming if they were right or not, I would assume they were correct. And of course, assuming that the weather would be just awful and the whole reason for going would be unavailable(because they seem to think that a little rain and lightning will close WDW) then I would change my plans. Being that I am in the US and know how the storms are tracking, and knowing from having been before when it has rained(does so almost daily for a short while in Orlando) then I know that there would be no need to cancel my trip.

You will be fine for your trip on the 28th. Orlando airport is opening today and all should be in good shape for you tomorrow.

As for the weather information, hurricanes in many ways are far worse than tornados, and generally, multiple tornadoes can be formed on the front of the hurricane.

I'm sure many people have changed their plans for Sept. and Oct., which only means that there will be more open for you when you get there. Then you can report back to your friends and tell them of the mistake they made.
