STANZA V - PATCH 'EM UP

We’re a long way from Disneyland! Welcome to the untamed wilderness of Regional Parks. Out here, even Six Flags and Cedar Fair are too corporate. Our attentions now turn to independently-operated parks and their wholly unique charms.

The villains are closing in, and our heroes must combine their strengths. To survive, you must become Team Heroes.

Your task: Using $250 million per park, Team Heroes must make 4 regional parks into vacation-worthy destinations.

Exactly what makes a “vacation-worthy destination?” Something which would make you say "Forget Orlando next year! We're going to that amusement park in Utah!"

Naturally these regional parks don’t have the advantage of popular IPs or an Orlando location, so we're not expecting Wizarding World of Harry Potter or anything. Given your locations and limitations, what can you achieve?

Select 1 park from each of the 4 categories below:

PIER PARKS

Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, Santa Cruz, CA
Morey's Piers, Wildwood, NJ

FAMILY-RUN PARKS
Lagoon, Farmington, UT
Holiday World, Santa Claus, IN

PENNSYLVANIA PARKS
Kennywood, West Mifflin, PA
Hersheypark, Hershey, PA

HERSHEND PARKS
Silver Dollar City, Branson, MO
Dollywood, Pigeon Forge, TN

But there’s a catch! The remaining 4 parks will become the possessions of Team Villains (Ace Astro, kmbmw777 and D Hindley). Team Villains will also have $1 billion available to upgrade their 4 parks. To show our fairness, Team Heroes gets first choice. Then Team Villains will take the remaining parks, and WE WILL CRUSH YOU!

  • Enjoy your cross-competitor team up! How will you mesh with your former rivals when pitted against three genuine villains? Will you combine your strengths or maintain existing relationships?
  • There is no research packet for you this week. MWAH HAH HAH! That’s right, the stakes have risen and now it’s up to you to research these wonderful parks yourselves.
  • Similarly, there is no PM. Everything is public. @S.P.E.W can see you.
  • Communication will be key!
  • One of these parks is already a part of the Sorcerer's Apprentice Universe! @TheOriginalTiki created an RMC conversion of Giant Dipper.
  • For these regional parks, expand, replace, improve, buy nearby land! Do whatever you need!
The Guest Reviewers will be judging this round! They will choose the winner, and there’s no guarantee that Team Heroes will win! And should Team Heroes lose…three of you will be going to the Cursed Courtroom!

Stanza V Sound Trivia - 8 Vintage Park Ads

Going to throw in a humble brag that I nailed the sound trivia when Ace sent it to me to test out before posting it, haha. In some ways I think I love local parks even more than I love Disney. Very much looking forward to seeing what can be done with the Santa Cruz Boardwalk in particular. Discovery Kingdom might be my home park, but the Santa Cruz Boardwalk was my childhood home away from home. It was my Disney before I knew what Disney was.

You did nail them!! I made the sound trivia and got only 6/8.

A quick Team Princes review: Well done, guys. While I wasn't into the whole show concept that much, the ride more than made up for it. Nice details & ride description; ride might be able to be a bit longer, but that's a nitpick. I admit I was distracted by the ride system video as I realized for a second how this ride system would enable someone to create the ultimate Back to the Future ride, with your group actually riding in a Delorean and not just a simulator— but I digress. The ride is well-suited to a Legoland environment, while gently pushing the envelope of what their attractions are capable of.

To Those Concerned about workload, remember this: You Are Being Given $250 Million per Park. That is enough for a Splash Mountain, Everest, and maybe themed dining. With the budget constraints and scope of the project, this acts as a great challenge for two things. #1- It forces you to cut the unnecessary fluff in the interest of time and #2- It makes the divided work equal to what you have done before for the Tomorrowland Project.

To this I would add...take advantage of what makes these regional parks unique. They are very much unlike Disney, which comes with its own set of pluses and minuses. You can get away with things here (such as more extreme roller coasters, or freedom from IPs) which you can’t with Disney or even Universal. Relish that opportunity!

Brer Fox & Brer Bear inspect their regional parks. They are flabbergasted by the progress Team Heroes is making.

“Well mercy be! They’s patchin’ ‘em up better ‘n I reckoned possible!”

“Durrrr, yeah…”

A hulking shadow suddenly covers them both. A new villain blots out the sun, his face unseen, his voice deep and haughty.

“HA! I make furniture out of beasts like you. Team Heroes has practically cemented their victory in Stanza V. This means they’ll be facing me throughout Act II.”

“What in tarnations you talkin’ ‘bout?!”

“Faster challenges with simpler concepts, now that they’ve gotten a taste for the game. A true test of the teamwork, efficiency and creativity they’ve been developing so far.

Trust me, boys, it’s all by design. Maleficent wants our heroes skilled in several Armchair Imagineering disciplines. That will make her inevitable victory all the sweeter. MWAH HAH HA!”

The Sorcerer's Apprentice is meant to challenge Armchair Imagineers in a variety of different skill sets, with the ultimate goal of self-improvement. As the gameplay format changes from challenge to challenge, we are highlighting different things.

Stanzaz I-IV were longer format challenges meant to test teamwork, with a focus on more in-depth projects.

As we move into Act II with Stanza V and the upcoming challenges, the focus turns to quality over quantity. Stanza V has asked players to work both as a team and solo. Stanzas VI - X will be quickfire rounds with simpler challenges, where you will be considering the finer details which make Disney and other parks so special.

Also, there will be no Cursed Courtroom for Stanza V. Have fun with that!

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT! I tend to forget that nobody other than myself really knows what Americana 1900 is. To me, it's almost real but to everyone else it's a totally unknown commodity. I mentioned "The Crypt of Fire" in the teaser for Stanza V as a place for the Villains to be punished in, and that it's a dark ride in the Americana County Courthouse. It's a dark ride in the theme park- how scary could that be? Other than being trapped on "it's a small world" for an hour with the music playing over-and-over, come on! Around here, we eat dark rides for breakfast.

"The Crypt of Fire" is intended to be a little bit different. Imagine the most terrifying "greatest hits" from HHN combined with the high-tech effects of Shanghai's POTC...times ten. That's "The Crypt of Fire." Even the Villains wouldn't like it. Of course, being a theme park, it's one of the most popular attractions in Americana 1900.

Here is a link to the backstory of "The Crypt of Fire." We do love a good backstory around here. Warning- this isn't Bambi, and no, I don't practice anything portrayed in this story myself...not any more.;)

PODCAST NEWS!

Tiki and I are having some scheduling issues with my trip last week and the trip he is about to go on. So, I'm looking for a cohost to do a recap/review of Stanza IV (The LEGO round). Preferably someone from Team Warriors, or a guest judge, or a host. Since I'm already representing Prince, it might be too uneven with two Princes.

If anyone wants to film a podcast with me tomorrow or Friday, let me know!

If I can't find a cohost, would you want me to do it solo? Or just wait for Tiki to be back and do a quick recap on everything we missed?
