The points were effective when each comp was elimination based and scoring was simple. But a bump in popularity of non-elimination comps where people can float in and out of teams made the points kind of well, pointless (pardon the pun).

Actually for a physical effect. When the ride opened, towards the bottom of the first drop (when the track itself moves) there are a series of mirrors at the bottom of the track. The effect put into place to make the tunnel/drop seem a lot larger. Sadly when they started testing the ride it was too dark for the effect to work so they lowered the light levels even more so they are not noticeable.Hm interesting -- is it an extra screen?
That drop is pretty dark so yeah I could see how it might not be seen.
