Also, I must say that some guy posted a five-part video detailing why he thinks Last Jedi will spell the end of Star Wars. Obviously, I refuse to watch it, but I realized something. This guy also supported the "Change the Channel" movement, which I also supported, but to me, it kinda feels like his reasons for supporting the movement are less "I genuinely support these women and am using this movement to bring to light Channel Awesome's shady business practices" and more "Nostalgia Critic sucks these days, so I'm using this movement to boycott his videos and talk about how crappy his current videos are."

Plus, from what I've heard, most of his complaints were ones Tony Goldmark rebutted in that video I shared a link to a few posts ago. I;e "The Leia scene didn't make sense" and "Luke didn't act anything like Luke".

And one more thing, what you said about those crackpots is half true. Like Pi said, there are people who have legitimate reasons for not liking these new movies. I especially hated TLJ because it created continuity error that could easily have been avoided if Johnson even cared about staying true to what was previously established in the predecessing movies , it tried to copy Marvel’s humor (and failed miserably), spent time on this “romantic” subplot that has business having this much focus over everything else and would’ve been more well suited to a spin-off novel or video game, how badly written these characters are; both old and new; and how toxicly sexist this movie is.

This a lot of fans who disliked both of those for very legitimate reasons. I enjoyed both movies, but they have a lot of issues with them. Especially Last Jedi.
I agree I wasn't a fan of Solo - still like TLJ but after seeing it on Netflix and really analyzing it, there are some big flaws beyond the loud mouth people complaining about race/politics.

The two big flaws to me were the execution of the space gas chase and Luke. Imagine waiting 30+ years for Luke Skywalker since RotJ and have him be an old hermit. Take someone like Harry Potter or a character from our childhood, and make him a grumpy old man who does basically nothing aside from force project - and yeah I can see the complaints for that.

The space chase was just structurally flawed. Rian Johnson is an amazing visual director, writing is not his strong suit. He could have cut Canto Bight as a whole, and given Rose more purpose, if she was simply the code-breaker. And the plot could have been how do you get Finn and Rose onto the ship, maybe an earlier battle with Phasma, or something like that.

Instead we got the First Order be a bunch of bumbling fools who just follow a ship at a distance so the plot can continue. Was that the entire First Order? They couldn't call on another ship to simply, go in front of the Resistance and 'trap' them?

And Holdo not telling anyone her plan was basically not telling the audience the plan to give her a hero moment. It doesn't feel organic, the excuse is kinda fluff and it just would have made more sense to tell a hotshot pilot to calm him down, hey...we're going to a safe planet. And when they jumped to light speed in the first place...where were they jumping to? Crait right? Leia didn't tell anyone either?

Well, some of those issues can be explained. In fact, this video disproves 12 of the most common complaints about Last Jedi.

I'll have to watch that later. But most of my complaints are the same i have with the prequels. Overly convoluted narrative where character decisions seem less based on logic or emotion and more based on creating plot points. Plus an unfocused writing that fails to choose a main character. One could equally argue that Finn and Rey are the lead. That causes both of their narratives to be underwritten. The plot in general is too simplistic considering how convoluted the writing of ut can be. Pacing is bad. Worst of all, it has such a distinct and unique tone that would be great if it wasn't meant to be a continuation of episode 7 yet it feels like an entirely different film series and doesn't pay off plot threads from 7 in a satisfying way (I'm ok with it not lining up with theories, but it needs to be satisfying). Not to mention the fact that Rey, Finn, and Poe's interactions with each other is a large part of what 7 so great and they all hardly interact at all. Plus odd visual choices like Luke milking an alien and Princess Leia's Mary Poppins moment.

That all being said, I really liked the movie and think it had a lot of good things. I loved it even. But there are a lot of issues with it beyond fanboy complaints and misogynistic jerks. And I think it is helpful from a filmmaking fan's perspective to examine why this was such a mixed reception film and all the actual issues.

I'll just sum up my feelings on the matter: The "fans" who whine about Last Jedi are to Star Wars what the "fans" who whine about every inconsequential change are to Disney Parks.
That's fair - though nostalgia has a lot to do with it as you view things a certain way from childhood and then when it's presented differently than what you remember it's hard to let go and accept.

Then there are people who just complain to complain.
