The Shanghai Disneyland spoiler rich attraction preview thread!

Yes. Most guests are coming off with strong comparisons to the original Rio del Tiempo as well as If You Had Wings -- both of which are very popular among Shanghai guests.

I was waiting for the Maelstrom comparison because of the forward and backward drops, though the tandem boat team configuration is very different. I can only imagine that the ride control software must be a close cousin of the programs running Ratatouille and Mystic Manor, what with their similar group-and-ungroup" behavior for longer show scenes.

Seems like in a couple of the TRON videos the CFL rings on the backs of the restraints aren't lightning up every time.

Queue the "Shanghai Disneyland is declining by degrees" crowd in 3... 2... 1...

Who else here would've much preferred the Snuggly Duckling over the Tangled potties?

I'll never understand the hate those things get.
Themed restrooms are the best. Every extra square foot of unthemed space in a theme park that gets love from scenic designers is a step in the right direction. The one at Hogsmeade is cool too.

I just want to show y'all this photo because I am deeply in love with the fact that there's a ropes course inside of a theme park. I just think it's great. And there is not just one trail, but three different ones (you can see another or two in the photo). It's just so unexpected and cool to me. I just assumed it was a walking trail, I had no idea that's what this was going to be.

I also assume you have to sign a waiver.

Even better, it sounds like this comes with admission. Is that true? If so, we'll see how long that lasts. This sounds like an operational nightmare, with the waivers, safety people on hand (in case someone falls), and large demand.

But this is completely unique to a theme park, at least to a Disney park, and it's ambitious. And I like that.

Now imagine if something like this was done in Pandora so we can actually hike the floating mountains...

Ropes courses aren't new to parks, if anything they are a fad on their way out.

Yeah that'd be cool. I assume it would ruin the sight lines though and be awkward to look at from the ground. But the idea itself... of course I'd love if something like that was added somewhere at WDW.

Really? What other theme parks have ropes courses? Besides for small county parks, are there any actual theme parks with these?

Look, I get that it surged in popularity a few years ago. I don't know if I'd call it a fad but I get that part of what you're saying. The park was planned years ago and that makes sense. But has this ever been done in a large-scale theme park? Sure, you have Redwood Creek at DCA, which is cool, but not nearly the same. I don't think it has been done.

That's what I meant before. Either way, I think it's really cool. There are so many stages where they could've said "nah, too many CMs needed, too much safety risk, too much whatever" and axed it, but they didn't. And I think all those extra troubles will be worth it.

Didn't really mean the mountains on top of the show building. More like something off to the side of that.

Anyone have a full video or either the daytime castle show or the nighttime spectatcular? I've seen bits and pieces of each, but can't find the any video of the full thing.

Dollywood has had and removed a ropes course.

I was not aware. Thank you.

It is kind of concerning that they built that whole nice course, and removed it after only three years. Hmmmm. Telling? I hope SDL's courses won't have a similar fate.

Yeah, I'd like that idea. Honestly, I'm having trouble visualizing, but if it looks anything natural and integrated like it does in these pictures of Shanghai, I'd be all for it.

One thing that hit me about the new PotC. No nod at all to the classic "Yo Ho" song anywhere -- or am I just not hearing it!? Even the movie makes sure to reference it!

Yeah, my biggest shock by far with the new ride. That is The Song. It is what makes Pirates of the Caribbean what it is. Don't get me wrong, the new ride looks excellent, I just think the song could've been in there at least somewhere. Oh well. "Hit me" is how I would descibe it, I'm not exactly disappointed, just a bit thrown.

Its because they could have done something much cooler for the Movie that (before Frozen) was the biggest Disney Animated movie in decades...
