The relevancy of Remember... Dreams Come True in 2018

It's no secret that Remember... Dreams Come True is my favorite fireworks spectacular ever, and it amazes me that nearly 13 years later, even with the cuts added in 2007/2008, it still wows people like it wowed me as a 10-year-old Disneyland superfan. Hearing the crowd go "whoah!" at the "is this haunted room actually stretching?" part always makes me smile, and the recent projections just add to the experience tenfold. You can tell that Steve Davison and his team at Creative Entertainment had a blast making the show. It puts you in the middle of the magic and it serves as a perfect grand finale to your day at Disneyland.

The POTC part is definitely my favorite. Not only getting to hear that Paul Frees voice work in the parks again, but the way it replicates the battle scene with flairs firing between the castle and the Matterhorn is so much fun.

Remember turns fireworks into a cast of characters in an overall show, like the fountains are for WOC. In shows like Together Forever, fireworks are just.. fireworks.

Agreed... Favorite DL fireworks show ever, hard to top it. The projections were a great plus up too. I only wish they borrowed 'A Kiss Goodnight' from Disneyland Forever to close out the night, it's a shame they didn't get more use out of that one.

"Remember When" is still a pretty great closing piece, although I really like Kiss Goodnight as well!

I love RDCT. It will always be a favorite for me, and I saw it almost every night on my last trip. I would certainly take RDCT over the Pixar fireworks.

But...

I think its time has come. I don't know that it impresses as much as it used to, even with the new projections. After Happily Ever After, it was clear to me last year that it's time for a replacement. I think the core of the show is still strong, but the Wishes opening and closing (which I never liked) seems all the more ludicrous now that that dinosaur has finally been put out of its misery. Disneyland Forever, or something on its scale, is what is needed to match HEA, IMO. Remember can't help but look badly in comparison.

Sorry. Please allow me to supply you with the first tomato as a peace offering:

I’m with you. It’s a great show that has been run into the ground.

I’d probably feel differently if it didn’t utilize the horrifying Wishes singing children theme song.

I actually love the Wishes part. To be fair, Wishes is the fireworks show I grew up with and I saw it hundreds of times but I think it was a good show. All it needed was some updates.

The Wishes theme song belongs in Wishes. It has nothing to do with the rest of RDCT. I suspect it was used as a budgetary measure at the time, but RDCT would have benefited greatly from its own theme song.

I disagree that Wishes just needed some updates - shows shouldn't run forever and HEA is a wonderful replacement. Disney's cheapness has lead a whole generation of guests to think that shows and parades never get replaced. ROE is now coming up on its 19th anniversary, which is frankly unacceptable.

The Happily Ever After theme song belongs in Hong Kong Disneyland. ;)

I pretty much agree with you, and I use RDCT as proof that I’m not blindly nostalgic. I love RDCT, I absolutely think it’s a great show, but I’m never really bothered when it goes away. What bothers me is when a show is replaced by something drastically dumber (Which is practically inevitable for RoE) or when a show is left running, but treated to a slew of really dumb minor changes (Fantasmic 2.0).

This is so, so true.

Amazingly, I’ve been watching RDCT for thirteen years but it wasn’t until around six years ago that I finally got around to watching Wishes. That annoying children-singing theme song which is just passable in RDCT was actually very touching and sensitively used in Wishes. In general, I was so impressed by Wishes’ gentle optimism. Like most fireworks shows, it was standard Disney(TM) brand flowery talk, but dang if it wasn’t convincing. Wishes melted my stone cold, cynical heart against all odds. Keep in mind, this was after I’d seen other great castle fireworks shows, including RDCT, Magical, Halloween Screams (which I later discovered is slightly inferior to its older brother Hallowishes), and some of the older ones like the “Believe...” series and Fantasy in the Sky. As much as I loved Wishes, I understand I was viewing it with fresher eyes than most, having missed its first ten years. Happily Ever After is a really nice show. Maybe if I was ten years’ worth more tired of Wishes, I would like it even more.

As for RoE, I fear for it because of what insiders have told us about its successor being an IP clip show. Given the choice, I’d much rather have the aging yet artistically sound current show. But Rivers of Light proves that, when given the chance, there are Imagineers who can create something with just as much integrity. The question is now will they get the chance, after RoL’s problematic technology crippled the show?

Magical's probably the only other firework show that runs regularly at Disneyland that I really enjoy besides RDCT.

I adore Magical. The Dumbo flying scene is one my top Disney nighttime show moments of all time.

I also loved Disneyland Forever - it was reverential to Walt while using great scenes and songs from a variety of films. RDCT is an outlier in that it used almost all park sounds and music. That's great, but there's room for variety and I'm sure the creative team didn't want to just do RDCT 2.0 for the 60th, so they did something different.
