The price of gas?

Hi,

We are from the UK and are traveling to Disney next month. :sohappy:

We hire a car for the 2nd week of our stay and collect it from the Buenavista Palace hotel at DTD.

I know there is a near by gas station but we are trying to work out if we should pay the £40 ($62 aprox) for a full tank of gas, we will by getting a chevrolet Equinox or similar.

Does anyone know the price of gas at the moment and what it would cost to fill a 4wd intermediate car?

Thanks

gas is about $2.55 a gallon here right now. It would probably cost about $45-$55USD to fill up the tank of an Equinox. I'm assuming a 20 gal tank on that car.

If you don't mind me asking...why do you need a 4WD car to drive around central florida?

If the rental car company is offering the 40 pounds, it is usually not a good deal. It is almost always cheaper to re-fill it yourself.

Just make sure that you do not refill near the airport. There are a couple of stations around MCO that are charging around $5-$6 per gallon. The three HESS stations on Disney property tend to have the lowest gas prices in the area.

Thanks for the reply.

We had a Toyota rav 4 when we were there 3 years ago and we paid upfront for the full tank, we wil not be doing it this time based on the replies here!

I have looked at the intermediate and full size but think we would prefere the SUV. (is that what they are classed as?)
We drop our bags of at DTD using the Virgin check in and we have 3 large cases, hand luggage and a stroller.

We also go to Universal, shopping Malls and over to Busch Gardens.

What is the trunk size in other cars, I always remember it looking bigger in cars over there than here!

thanks again.

depending on how many people are in your party. You should be fine with a mid-size SUV...that would be your Rav-4 or your Honda CRV. You might also be able to get away with a full-size sedan. They have pretty huge trunks IMO.

I think filling up yourself may be better. For the price of gas at any time, gasbuddy.com is a pretty good way to get some prices, don't know how accurate it will always be, though.

I agree with the others on here. *Never* pre-pay for the tank of gas from a rental car company. You get the cars with a full tank anyway, and just have to fill it up before you return it. So if you pre-paid the gas, if you leave ANY gas in the tank when you return it, you're wasting money.

Pretty much any rental car I've had in Orlando that you're returning it at the airport, you can fill up on WDW property, top it off a little (squeeze the pump handle once or twice more after the auto shut-off), and drive right to the aiport. It'll still read as Full when you return it.
Worst-case-scenario, you have to put 1 gallon back in it near the airport and only pay an extra $1 for that marked-up gas...

I've found that the lowest prices right around WDW have been at the Hess stations on-property, or the Mobil on 192-East near Celebration.

I drive a 05 equinox and it takes me about $35-40 dollars to fill the tank. Mine is a 6 cy but most of the newer ones are 4 cy so they are a little better with gas mileage. The tanks are about 14-16 gallons. You can fit 4 adults very comfortable, 5 is managable but tight. There is plenty of room in the back for all kinds of luggage!
