I think we need to peel this issue off into its own thread. While the news of Trader Sam's and the name change seem to be positive, this is a decidedly different story worthy of being singled out.
As a loooong time lurker (but infrequent poster), I have to say I have never seen the fan community so galvanized against a particular change. So much so that maybe there is a real chance we can do something about it.
First, I think we need to be clear about what we want here. While the “Shame on you Disney!” type of post certainly communicates a great amount of displeasure, it doesn’t exactly tell Disney what we want them to do. From reading the many threads on the various boards, the sense that I am getting is that most of us aren’t upset they are removing the 40 year old version of the waterfall, it’s that they are removing it and not replacing it with a new, just as impressive, just as grand, create the same vibe version. So folks, let’s include in our posts exactly what we want them to do.
Second, I think DVC is the key to getting their attention. DVC seems to have become a significant financial driver given all of the work they are putting into the resort. So if word got out to as many current and potential DVC owners as possible, and if this is indeed as universally despised idea as it seems to be, then maybe interest in buying into Poly DVC becomes soft. That would raise a few eyebrows because they have to be thinking Poly DVC is a financial slam dunk. Then maybe the is a sliver of a chance they’ll change their mind.
So let me kick this off with my personal thoughts…
What I want is, if the waterfall needs replacing, that it be replaced with a new, just as impressive, just as grand, create the same vibe version. To me it is the centerpiece of what made the Poly truly unique. Whether it be that first South Seas feel it gave when checking in, or that soothing feeling of looking and listening to it when waiting for a meal. Without it or a worthy replacement, I feel a large part of what made the resort special has been stripped away. I wouldn’t even consider buying into a place that lost its soul.
