The original uniglobe

My first and so far only trip to Universal was in 1998. I guess I am glad I went at that time because even though the studious had changed somewhat since opening day, so much of the resort was left untouched before the islands of adventure expansion. I regret not documentating the studios way back then like I have with WDW. HOWEVER I am glad my sister and I have a photo of us with the original uniglobe...but this leads me to my question

The uniglobe was not in the pool it was always advertised in. It was in a round flower bed with the pole sticking in the ground. Constructions walls were up and now I realise the whole entrance was soon to get the facelift.

Question is what became of the uniglobe? Was it remodeld into the new blue one or was it sent to hollywood?

I got some video of it in 1990. Eventually I`ll be doing a Universal 1990 video (not many rides though - not many were working....)

we did get a lot of GVs, ET (changed a bit since then), Dynamite Nights, Jaws version one (what was working) and the original Hard Rock.

Incase you havn`t seen it, i`ve got the original entrance concept in my photo album here http://photoalbums.wdwmagic.com/showphoto.php?photo=9821&size=big&ppuser=6710

- to the left of the archway is the globe Expo  is talking about.

For awhile, I had a theory that they donated the globe to the Sheraton hotel on I-Drive which currently has a globe on top. I hadn't remembered seeing the globe before Universal became a resort and we had stayed at the Sheraton around the time.

However, that theory is out the window since the globe atop the Sheraton has a much different design..
