The nerve of some guest......

We were at Animal Kingdom earlier this month. My sons were waiting to see Chip and Dale. There was a woman with her young son and what looked like Grandma taking a picture. Well they finished up and I said to my boys "your turn guys" and they proceeded to Chip and Dale. Well, it turns out the "Grandma" lady was a mum with a young child we did not see. I called my boys back and said oh I'm sorry we thought you were with the last people. Well the lady made some comment about older kids (mine are 12 and 7) and taking turns. Okay my kids came back and said sorry. We really did not see the child and it did appear like the people were together.

Chip and Dale were great though. They made some gesture to my sons like uh oh or something then came back to them as soon as the other people were done. They handled it wonderfully. My boys took it all in stride. If a person does not want to accept an appology it is there problem not ours.

That's the time you'd like to say "sorry "Grandma" we didn't mean to get in front of your grandchildren".

You do have to just move on and say hey it is your problem.

I have worked in retail for a long time and I finally came to the conclusion that you have to find the funny in every situation or it will take you down.
I could never work in guest relations, I would want to tell people to chill when they were being stupid.
I don't have any Disney stories that I can think of, a lot of stupidity but not much rudemess. But I do have a customer that is huffy and complaining all the time. If I ever see her again, I really want to ask her what is so bad in her life that makes her like that all the time. No one has that bad of an attitude all of the time. One time I was answering the phone and the person working with me was signing for the UPS delivery, and she knocked a display off the counter because she thought we were ignoring her.

I seriously can't even believe the way some people act. I work at Wendy's and we're asking people to donate to raise money for blood cancer research, well I don't mind the people who politely say "no thanks" or something like that, but I actually had someone yell "hell no" into the speaker. Another guy just sped up to the window, gave me a stern look, and wouldn't even talk to me when I asked how he was and gave him his total all because I asked him to donate for a good cause. It's not even any pressure, we even hand out $1 off coupons so if you come back to Wendy's the donation was basically free for the customer.

The only problem with that is when you accidently start to laugh while the guest/customer is yelling at you. (not that that's happened to me or anything :lookaroun ) Honestly though, some situations are so rediculous that I just want to burst out laughing, I try not to, but it's happened once or twice after a long day.

I can appreciate and respect what CM's go through each day. I've had a customer service job for over 30 years and know that some people are beyond being satisfied regardless of what you do for them. I deal with idiots every day.
I'm just thankful I have two good ears. That way the crap they're spewing can go in one, and out the other !

I too would like to give cudos to the Disney cast members....I have never....EVER had a bad experience with a cast member, and my wife and I go to WDW every year!!! On more than one occasion, they have gone above and beyond for us!!! Just one quick story....

During our 2003 stay at the All-Star Movies Resort, I had a bad experience in the parking lot where I rounded behind one of the Disney Resort vans...what I didn't know was that this van was used to transport handicapped guests to and fro....well, when I rounded the rear of the van, they had left the wheelchair lift gate down...it was painted black just like the tarmac of the parking lot, and I took a pretty good tumble scraping my right leg really badly and injuring my right shoulder. :hammer: Well, I went to the lobby and asked for the manager on duty (not to raise heck or anything, but I just thought they should know about the lift gate thing). Well, the manager got some medical personnel there to dress my scrapes and check my shoulder, and couldn't be more apologetic!! He also informed me that it is against company policy to leave those lift gates in the down position. He also comped our last night's stay and gave us complimentary dinner tickets at the Rainforest Cafe!!! Like I said, I wasn't gonna sue them or anything, I just didn't want someone else to fall over the lift gate!!!

I've had SO many other great experiences with cast members, but this was by far the best....

That being said, again I'd like to just say "WELL DONE" and "KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK" :sohappy: :sohappy:

Come on....you're supposed to use common sense and the thinking part of your brain when you're at WDW?

:lookaroun

I am thinking perhaps these Tink pins for the YOMD Celebration shoudl actually be brain pins...

Anyway, I think this approach is sad. I know my parents tried to teach me to appreciate good manners like this. I didn't like it at the time, but it has been one of the best lessons I know today. I actually get very frustrated and upset with people who act as some of the above examples have (How's that for irony! :hammer: ). I think taking a total of 5 minutes out of your ENTIRE day to hold a door, allow someone to go first, or to point someone in the right direction adds to the magic. First, it is just great knowing you helped improve someone's day (that was the best pay I got as a CM - b/c Lord knows it wasn't the check that was doing it  ) AND you never know when the favor will be returned. It's like that Responsibility commercial. I like the idea that I have scored these "brownie points" with fate so that, when I ever need one myself, I might just be able to cash some of them in.

Rainforest Cafe?!! Oh my goodness, he was trying to poison you!!

Anyway, I quite agree with you. While there have been some horror stories about Disney cast members, the overwhelming majority of them have performed admirably and have created the Magic that is Disney. I truly hope that they are aware that there are many of us who really appreciate what they do, considering that Disney still do not pay them what they are worth.
