The Muppets are apparently brainwashing kids against capitalism

We normally try to stay away from politics on this site, and for good reason. Those sorts of conversations usually regress pretty quickly into something incredibly annoying, but I just had to comment on this latest bit of ridiculousness.

The mainstream media wants to get upset about violence of ______ in movies? Fine, that's always going to happen. But when they start calling The Muppets communists? That's where I have to draw the line.

The segment below ran on Fox Business and it says that THE MUPPETS teaches and anti-capitalist message to kids as the villain of of the story is an oil baron named "Tex Richman" (Chris Cooper) who wants to destroy the Muppet studios to drill for oil. So that's an anti-oil and "class warfare" double whammy, and Fox, naturally, could not let that slide.

What follows is an infuriating seven minutes of this insanity, acting like The Muppets are the first movie to ever use a greedy businessman as the lead bad guy. And you know what? There happen to actually be A LOT OF GREEDY BUSINESSMAN BAD GUYS IN THE WORLD.

Sad. Picking on the Muppets. I suppose these guys never saw Mr. Potter in "It's a Wonderful Life" or any version of Dickens "A Christmas Carol". I'm sure they've forgotten about the book of the latter. It's not new dudes, wake up.

I think the Oil Tycoon guy was really just played for laughs, no political messages intended. Becuase the whole plot line about an oil tycoon trying to tear down somthing precious is incredibly cliche and i think the muppets were making fun of this.

Consider the source, people.

This is Fox Business, the same company which attacked Mr. Rogers for teaching kids that they are special for being themselves.

About on par for Fox. The muppets aren't bashing on capitalism, just people that are greedy and or evil. Gonzo is a successful businessman. Ms Piggy created a career on one of the highest markup industries in the world.

The new story is that the Muppets encourage entitlement: At least, that's the spin being put on "Food for Thought" by some news outlets.

A “food insecure” Muppet is helping to promote a national “Food for Thought” campaign that teaches poor families to seek out nutritious food and to eat on the taxpayers’ tab.

At the National Press Club on Thursday, Lily the Muppet – who worries about her family not having enough money to feed her properly -- pitched free food at school:

“Sometimes we can't always afford to buy all the food that we need,” Lily said. “I mean, but we've been finding lots of ways that we can get help...Yeah, for example, at school I get a free breakfast and a lunch...part of the meal plan."
