I have never considered this a coaster. I think of it as a ride on a coaster track. I see people refer to it as a coaster, though.

So I got to wondering what most people think.

Vote your conscience! ;)

The correct answer is coaster/dark ride hybrid. It isn't one or the other.

I suppose the best answer is that it's both.

There's a couple of these true coaster/dark ride hybrids popping up nowadays. Other examples would be things like Mystery Mine at Dollywood and the Curse of Novgorod at Hansa Park.

The mummy is fun and is part coaster and part dark ride. I love the affects and stops on the ride and then love the way it takes off. The que was impressive the first time I went on the ride and loved all the detail that was put into a standing que. The ride is fun and makes you want to go on it a few more times.

This is the Hollywood version, but the two are very similar. Certainly looks like a coaster with the lights on...
(I'll also point out the Universal tour guy calling it a coaster)

Personally I view it as "a roller coaster with a dark ride portion". It's not a powered ride car that has a motor pushing it along the entire time, it *coasts* for a decent percentage (track-length wise, not ride-time-wise).

God bless the "Ignore" button.
True I went on it once with no line and it took a while to get to the actual ride.
It's not as bad as Dragon Challenge...
Option #1 for me. I really never think of it as just another coaster. It's a straight-up dark thrill ride for me.

I would never call it JUST another coaster. I mean, years later, and there's still no coaster/dark ride hybrid that even comes close. Heck, I can't even think of anything that could be categorized as such! Though I'm sure Gringotts will change all that.

It's uniquely its own ride. Doesn't quite fit into any category. Kind of like FJ- what the heck is it? IDK, but I love 'em both!
