We travel from all parts of the world to reach the same destination, but we all have very different journeys.
What the one thing that stands out on your journey to WDW?

For me its very close to home, theres nothing else like it in the UK as far as I know. It's even more relevant on the journey home. You can see it from about 40 miles away, but we know we are nearly there when it comes into view.

I'll post the wiki link later. I want to see if anyone knows what this is.

On the drive down from Wisconsin, there's a HUGE cross along the highway in Illinois. I've heard it's the biggest cross on earth, but I don't know if that's true.

Another thing that stands out is this beauty:

There used to be a fire truck graveyard on the side of the highway. That was very cool.

But the best thing has to be the mountains in the fall. They're so gorgeous.

Nothing ever beats nature. :)

We pass something that isn't strange in and of itself, but we sometimes make it strange. There is an exit on the turnpike called Yeehaw Junction. We sometimes call a relative as we drive up to the sign and shout "Yeehaw!" over the phone while passing the exit. Yeah, dorks.

LOL, sounds like something we would do. Theres another smaller local landmark that the kids all shout "theres Buzz Lightyear" everytime we pass.

I just read that last sentence. Is that the Penshaw Monument?

The airport shuttle I use is around the corner from this diner that was featured on a Bon Jovi album cover and in a Bruce Springsteen video.

It has this in front of it:

That cross is in Effingham Illinois, home of the middle of nowhere, but by gosh they have a train depot.
The cross was to be dedicated on 9/11 2001. Instead dedicated a few days later with a massive crowd due to 9/11.

198 feet tall!

It is to be the beacon of hope for the 50,000+ travelers that pass it each day on Rte. 57. Three IL Universities are along that particular highway including my DD's which is north of there.

I don't know if it's "unusual", but we fly out of Midway when we go to WDW. I always think it's a little freaky that there are homes and apartment buildings literally across the street from the runways. I try not to think about that when we're taking off.
