I am fairly new to this site, so please be patient if this question has been answered over and over. However, I read somewhere on this site that they are considering, or have taken the "MGM" out of the MGM Disney Studios name. Any truth to that? Thanks.

The answer is yes and no. The marquee on all of the buses still say Disney-MGM Studios, but then some of the souvenirs say Disney Studios. So for now it looks like they'll keep the MGM name but you never know what Disney may do.

I really dont think it is going anywhere anytime soon.

The rumor has been floating around for about the last 5 years - and it still hasnt happened.

The merchandise name changes has also been happening for years and years. The "Disney Studios" logo has been available for at least the last 5 years or so, along with the usual "Disney MGM Studios". So I really wouldnt read anything into this. We have already made that mistake several times in the past.

I think that maybe Disney have realised that any name change could be potentially damaging to park recognition, and have chosen to stick with the agreement with MGM.

Just think, if Disney lost the rights to MGM, we would have no refrence to Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, Singing in the Rain, Tarzan, IndIana Jones, etc.

I think it's been looked at, and decided against, at least for now

Ohh no, Indy stays, Lucas is in charge there.

If it ends the GMR is the only thing that needs a revamping, hopefully with all Disney Movies. Still, I do love the GMR, and the finalie is spectacular.

LoL..and there would be a lot of empty space where the former "MGM" rides were....

The new Paris MGM type park will be called Disney Studios so maybe that's were some of the rumors have come from. One post earlier said that the rumor has been around for 5 years around the time one would be planing a park.

The Twilight Zone is licenced by viacom, but original rights belong to the original company that produced the series...MGM

ToT is planned for Paris :)

with the Twilight Zone theme? I hope they make it a hotel, too...I think that'd be the BEST hotel...it'd be like living out The Shining...minus the ax-killer and they exploding boilers--although the basement of the Hollywood Tower Hotel does have that kind of boiler...
