The Magic of Disney Animation?

Hey, I got back from a trip about a week ago. I took the Animation tour which I have not been on in quite a long time, and never during regular work hours.

Anyway, we got near the end of the tour were we saw three or four employees eagerly engauged into "their work" in front of a "computer". The housing for the "monitor" was turned so that the back was toward the onlookers.

No one payed it much mind as the final videos began to play before entering the last movie room. I happened to glance once more (being the interested Animator wannabe I am) to see a shocking discovery.

Two of the Animators had Playstation controllers in their hands. The other one or two animators who seemed so eager in pointing and talking about what was happening on screen were actually watching the other two play video games.

You could not view far enough back from the windows to see the game, however you could just make out a compact PSOne unit.

I suppose this is allowed activity and they were either A. On Break, B. Working on a new Disney Game Release, or C. Encouraged to do things like this to ease stress and free their minds.

Any one with thoughts or input on this. They sure were enthusiastic about it and did not seem to mind that onlookers may notice that a Playstation was their attention at the moment.

It wouldn't surprise me.

My wife worked in an Advertising Agency for many years, and the creatives had stuff like that on their floor. They had pinball machines, pool tables, etc. This was pre-dotcom, so it was really unusual back then.

As long as those guys (and gals) were cranking out good copy, no one really cared what they did.

So, it wouldn't surprise me if the animators and creative types at Disney had similar latitude.

My friend also works in advertising downtown and it's the same story! Foos ball is their main thing

It makes sense to me. A stale mind is not going to crank out much in the way of creativity.

I guess it wasn't that they had a Playstation that struck me so odd as the fact that they were so engauged during the tour hours and it was right next to the glass viewing area rather than away from onlookers. I agree with the creativity process though, i just found it funny cause I'm sure most people thought, they sure are hard at work.:D
