Who else has seen this incredible film? I just got back about an hour ago from a 12:00 pm showing at my local Muvico, and I must say this was the best movie of the trilogy. It was absolutley amazing. The special effects were outstanding, and the script was well done. Only one thing to complain about-3 HOURS and 20 MINUTES. But hey, that's ok! It was one of the best movies of the year. Go see Return of the King ASAP!

I disliked the first two, and really enjoyed this one. I saw it also at Midnight. It didn't actually seem to drag on as much as I thought it would. Too many scary parts, but it was good. :sohappy:

I went to the Midnight showing lastnight!
OMG! IT was AWESOME!
As soon as it started everyone got up from their seats and was cheering! half the people dressed up in costumes of their favorite characters. I had a blast! But I haven`t been to sleep yet so I`m tired LOL! :snore:

I went to the midnight showing, too....I was really happy with this movie. I quit reading the third book during the battle that NEVER ENDS so I was really glad to see the movie and see that battle finally end!

So this movie was the first one I didn't know all the plot of, and it was nice wondering what would happen next. I was really happy with a lot of what they did. The scene at the beginning was my very favorite part of the first book, and I was glad to finally see it. Minas Tirith looked *EXACTLY* like I had pictured it. The men of the mountain looked really awesome, too. I was a bit disappointed in Eowyn in this movie, though...she's so brave in the book, but she spent a lot of screen time looking terrified. And the eye....the way it was moving as the tower fell....I could barely surpress the giggles!

Excellent.

Everything I expected it would be.

The only complaint i had was no cleansing of the shire, but i understand that time constraints would come in to play there.

I am going to wait a little while and see it in style at the Pleasure Island 24 Theatres at WDW shortly after my arrival jan 3rd.

Last time we were there was in 2001 and the theatre just blew us away! Our very best moviehouse far away in Anchorage pales in comparision, hard seats, small screen and mediocre sound system.

The trilogy reminds me of the original Star Wars releases and the resulting hype and expectations. Which is good...I'd rather get involved in the mega movies with a real story not Need for Speed VIII or such:rolleyes:

Outstanding!! That spider really freaked me out. Still, they could have cut the ending short, just a little bit. It seemed like the director just didn't want to let these characters go. Understandable, I guess.

[minor spoilage ahead]

Yeah, he was determined to stick with Tolkien's ending, for better or worse. There were 2 or 3 places where a fade to black would have been perfectly satisfying, but he insisted on throwing in Frodo sailing away and Sam returning home, which weren't my favorite parts of the book, really. Ah, well...minor gripes.

Okay Sally, have you seen the film? If not I'd advise you stop reading.

Okay when the hobbits come back to the shire, they find the area has been taken over by a mysterious figure called 'sharkey' who has pretty much ruined the place.

So they lead the people to uprise against him, and once he has been defeated, they discover that sharkey is actually saruman, with wormtongue helping him. (Can't remember how he gets out of the orthanc.) Well they kill him i think, and go onto become great leaders rebuilding the shire and all live happily ever after.

Also, Legolas and Gimli go over the sea with the elves too. (The film doesn't explain that)

That was the very consise version. Hope it helps though.

I give it 4 little disembodied clapping heads (out of 4)!!!

What an amazing surprise it was! The battle scenes were wild -- I don't think they left out ANY special effect ever invented!

OSCARS all around!

Websites are reporting that ROTK made $34 million just on Wednesday! That's a good report! I expect it to hit $100 million by Monday at least. Major crowds are expected over this weekend.

Just to correct an earlier post I made:

The Scouring of the Shire was never filmed and will not be on the Extended DVD; the end of Saruman's battle with Gandalf will be included. I had misinterpreted some things I read online; sorry for spreading the misinformation.

Well I'm glad we're at least getting that, i thought it was a bit of a poor way to finish Saruman's part in the film with just a 'Saruman is locked in his tower, his power is fading.'

He is a great character and I think he, and Christopher Lee, deserve a bit more.

careful....a few more spoilers

wormtongue stabs saruman and then runs away from the shire.
anyway, the movie rocked my world...i almost cried like twenty times. i.e. "you bow to no one." oh man!
i wish that they would have showed that sam killed shelob because in the book he did and all the orcs thought that some huge beast was running around and they were all really scared when it was really just sam. i love samwise. :D
