Today (Sunday 6/23) they had a free screening of the movie for AP holders in the Muppet theater. There were 2 showings (noon and 4PM.)

It was nice seeing the movie more than a week before it comes out. They also gave everyone a Lone Ranger button and mask, which was a nice touch.

The spoiler free review is it's basically Pirates 2 and 3 as a western. Notice I said 2 and 3, not the first one.

Pirates 2 I thought was the height of over-the-top giant summer movie action goodness. Pirates 3 was when I thought they got bogged down and lost their way. Would you say Lone Ranger is more Pirates 2 or Pirates 3?

More 2 than 3, which is good. Some of action sequences are very over the top but in a good way. You just can't go in with the mindset of thinking "that's not possible in real life" which took a little adjusting to me as most Westerns I've seen are fairly realistic in terms of stunt work. There is one particular extended action sequence that I was very impressed with. That had to be extremely complicated to pull off. Depp has some funny lines and his timing is dead on.

It does get a little bogged down in parts and goes on a couple of tangents without paying them off, or doesn't do it very well IMO. It doesn't go off the rails though. It has a fairly simple main story line and it never veers too far off that path. You can pretty much figure out what is going to happen next but maybe surprised how they get there if that makes sense. There is a plot device used for telling the story that I didn't like and cutting it would have shaved 15 minutes or so, which would have benefited it. It runs about 2 1/2 hours.

It does play homage to the old series and even takes a couple fun jabs at it. The locations they shoot in are amazing and some locations should be familiar to fans of old Westerns. It doesn't take itself seriously so no one should take it as such. Overall a good fun popcorn flick.

I want to thank everyone that attended the Premiere and didn't ride a single ride. We had the best day ever riding every ride in DCA while you sat on bleachers, watching red carpet. We were welcomed with a 30 minute wait time on Racers and a walk on Ariel, Screaming, Midway and anything else we wanted, in the back of the park. We left DCA for DL at about 3:30 and were welcomed with an empty DL with walk-on lines and great weather!

The Lone Ranger wore a pink linen suit with peaked lapels to the movie premiere? I don't think the other Texas Rangers are going to like that, but maybe things have changed in the Lonestar State.

That's because this isn't the 1880s anymore and the only "Rangers" left there are the ones guarding the Wal-Mart parking lots by sleeping on the job between stuffing their mouths with fast food. ;)

Nobody cares for their fashion advice anyway.

I was over in Disneyland Park that day (didn't want to have to deal with the movie premiere nonsense). It was empty. Least crowded day out of the six days we were there. I think it helped that it was a blackout date for many passholders as well.
