The Living Seas of Old Epcot

I just watched a video of a The Living Seas Tribute, and man, I'm kinda depressed. I must have ridden it when I was younger, but Horizons and The Imagination Pavilion have always been the things I've noticed most drastically changed. Well, after watching that tribute movie, I'm sad to say that I'd rank the loss of the original theme of The Living Seas up there with unfortunate changes to Epcot.

The scientific approach, the preshow, followed by ride, followed by well themed pavilion to explore. The whole thing just worked. It makes me wonder if it was really necessary to change it up and add in Nemo.

What are your thoughts?

While I also loved the old seabase alpha theme the pavilion was dead. Quite honestly had the expense of removing one of the largest aquariums in the world had not been so great the Living Seas very well might have gone the way of Wonders of Life. It is a hard pill to swallow but the simple fact is that little clown fish saved that pavilion.

I like the old Living Seas other the Nemo version it felt more futuristic and the scuba diver in the middle was really cool as well. I also miss the elevator that took you to the seas how it looked like you're really underwater, it was really cool.

This is still there.

I know Original Living Seas was much quieter and something I miss dearly. Having Nemo and Friends blasted into my ears while trapped in a shell car is somewhat toturous. BTW is that restarant where you eat in the aquarium still there or did that go with the old Living Seas?

To be truthful, the biggest appeal for me has always been the big aquarium, and that aspect of this attraction has never changed. I found/find the rest of this attraction to be a bit tedious beyond the second visit.

Agreed it is such a shame they put this Nemo overlay in. It doesn't fit in FW! They could have saved the pavilion without it. Add an E-ticket and people would have come.

I would have the day WOL closed moved thise simulators to TLS. Put the original theming that the concept art showed if Atlantis. Then the ride could have been a thrilling Journey to Atlantis.

It is still there. It is called the Coral Reef.

Agreed. It's one of my favorite places to relax.

People don't seem to realize that Sea Base still has all the features it always had. Maybe a little less fish in the main tank... but theres still thousands of them in there. They still have scuba divers in the main tank, in the glass tube multiple times a day, dolphin presentations, etc.

Like it or not, the ride saved the pavilion from a much worse fate. My biggest problem with the ride is that it has no thing to do with Epcot - the style would be much more suited for a Fantasyland attraction. If they had to use Nemo, it could have been you going on a field trip with Mr. Ray, Nemo, and friends as he explains the coral reef and different creatures, or something along those lines.

Instead of scrapping the idea they should have updated it where needed and kept with the theme of the park.

You boarded a hydrolator and got the chance to travel to an undersea base complete with divers, robots and visions of the future. That sparked your imagination, that made you excited for the future, that made you want to learn and explore.

Now you get a cheap tie-in to a crap movie about a lost dinner entree.

I miss my EPCOT.

Agreed and there were plans to fix it correctly but Disney chose the cheap and fast way to fix it making the pavilion no longer fit.

What they did worked it brought the crowds back but at a huge sacrafice to theme.

They did the same thing in DL with Nemo Subs! Nothing screams SCFI or TL like Nemo!

Well, my kid loved the Nemo Ride so and it got us in the pavilion three times and we checked out the fish every time. Wonder why they could not have both the ride and the elevators?
