The Living Seas - Martins Complete Ultimate Tribute

I had no idea that originally it was planned and designed to be even better and more elaborate than it ended up being when they finally got a sponsor. I suppose it shows that even over 35 years ago that Disney was able to change plans or be willing to put things on hold if they thought the budget was going to be too much for their liking.

I can only imagine the outcry on here if Disney built a 5th gate and then didn't build a planned attraction in it for a couple of years until they got a sponsor to pay towards it. We'd probably hear that 'back in the day' stuff like that would never have been allowed to happen!!

Honestly, this is a bit depressing. I forgot just how amazing and wonderful The Seas were.

So much education, so much immersion, and such wonder. Now you get to see a broken angler fish in the middle of an IP ride, an other IP interaction that says "dude" every other word and calls your shirt a shell, and what amounts to a big aquarium. There is that little area over by Turtle Talk that tries to be educational, and the manatees exhibit when there is the random CM around, but that's about it.

It's really pretty sad to see just how neglected this pavilion has become.

The focus has also been reversed. Before the main attraction was Sea Base Alpha and its various exhibits; the ride you took to get there (Preshow, Hydrolators, Sea Cabs) was just the start of your experience. Having that journey broken down into parts also made it feel longer, as if the Sea Base was truly far away from the rest of Future World.

Now the ride is the main focus and the tank is an after thought. It's over so quickly you just walk out of the gift shop and move on to the next short lower-case Epcot ride.

Was there ever a thought of having you take Hydrolators to get to Coral Reef? It kind of spoils the illusion to just walk in through the door and find the aquarium there.

I don't blame the Hydrolators for my fear of drowning (I blame it on watching the Abyss at a young age...), but I will say they were one of the coolest and scariest experiences I ever had as a kid. When you went in the Hyrdolators, I thought you were taken so far down the ocean that there was no way you would get out. And then, boom, "Oh look! We are outside now..." Kid mind = blown.

That is it exactly. It was a low cost (relatively) experience - An educational movie, a elevator, and a Omnimover with almost no themeing (aside from a huge aquarium). It really did make it feel like you were taking a long trip to get to the SeaBase. All along the way, there was education - either from the movie, or from the commanders speech, or from exhibits.

Now, as you said, you go through a very expensively themed queue, but aside from keeping your attention, really does nothing else. You go on the same Omnimover, but with a load of special effects that keep breaking, and then as you said, hightail it out through the gift shop.

It really is disappointing.
