I just booked tickets for my husband & I to go see Disney's Lion King on Broadway in NY!!! :sohappy: :sohappy:
I am wondering if anyone has seen this in the New Amsterdam theater? Is the theater really huge? We're in the balcony, those were the best tickets available... I usually prefer the mezzanine, but there wasn't anything available there... our date isn't flexible... so I took what I could get. I remember seeing The Christmas show in Radio City Music Hall, and that place is huge... we were in the balcony there too, but it was fine... could see well. If anyone has any feedback... I'd sure appreciate it!! :)

CONGRATUALTIONS!!!

The show is AWESOME and you will have an EXCELLENT time!

Wherever you sit, you will be fully engulfed in the production! The theater is big, but still smaller than many, and it appeared that there was not a bad seat in the place!

It's a very large and colorful production and you will be able to see fine from the balcony. In fact, there are some aspects of the show that will actually look better from that vantage point!

HAVE FUN!

I saw The Lion King in that theater in September 99 and it was awesome! The theater is big, but it doesn´t look like it once you are inside. It gave me the impression that you see well wherever you are. We got the tickets through a broker and we paid $125 each. The date of purchase of our tickets was of July 98!! No wonder why I couldn´t find any before! We were in the third row!! We could see the singer´s cavities -for real-. If you don´t mind telling, how much did they cost you now? No matter what, the show is worth it!

Yeah, we were very close, specially when you see how small those seats and rows are! After the pain of paying that much, you had to see our faces when we were directed to our seats.... we couldn´t believe it! :animwink:

I have a question:

I'm going to see it this summer ( :sohappy: ) I'm a little sencative to loud and sudden noises ( like popping balloons, explosions, gun shots, etc. ) Does the lion king show have any of the such?

Don´t sit on the edge if you sit on orchestra because you may be surprised by characters coming out from everywhere but no explosions, popping ballons or anything, don´t worry about that. :)

Hubby & I went to NYC on Friday. We took the train from CT, and we checked in to our hotel. After cleaning up, and changing for dinner, we went downstairs to enjoy the wine & cheese happy hour in our hotel. When it was time for dinner, we walked to Broadway Joe's Steakhouse... which was "ok"... after dinner we walked to 42nd street, and poked around in a few stores, including the Disney Store, and then entered the theater to see LION KING!! The show was AWESOME!! I would see it again... and I want to bring my kids too. The only down thing was that we were in the second row of the balcony, and the girl in front of me was leaning on the rail for the ENTIRE show, which obstructed my view... ugh!! My husband's knees were rubbing against the seat in front of him, and we heard a lot of people making comments on how small the seats were... another time I would opt for mezzanine... and hope that someone in front of me won't be leaning forward for the whole show. I don't recall any loud noises. I want to see the Lion King show at Animal Kingdom... has anyone seen the broadway show to compare with the show in AK??

Me again.... hehe
I´ve seen them both. The production in AK has nothing to ask for to the Broadway one! The costumes are as good as the ones there and the whole show is very nice. Of course, it is shorter and it´s not in a theater, it has acrobats and of course there is more interaction with the audience because it´s planned to be like that, so it´s less "serious" than the Broadway one. I love them both, and because I can not see the Broadway one that often, the one in AK is the closest thing to it! :animwink:

I went to NYC a few weeks and snapped a picture of the New Amsterdam Theater....

Because I, for one, like illustrations in my book (and like pictures on threads), I'll post a picture I took of the theater:)...

Just so you can visualize it if you've never been.... ;)

Here's a picture of me on 42nd St. with the New Amsterdam theater across the street behind me... we saw the show Friday night, but walked back by the theater Sat. a.m.... that's why the street is so quiet. :)
