Truth be told, I really created this cause I wanted to gloat. Our edition came out yesterday and, theoretically, it'd be in my hands today, 4 days before you guys, for the first time EVER. Unfortunately, I don't know what happened so I'm still waiting...

Anyways, I hear the Disney sound they came up with is even better than DTS, I can't wait to get a load of that! :slurp:

Let us know what you think of the LK DVD. Like, is it worth buying if you already have it on video? What features does it have? etc.

I thought it just had the standard Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound. I don't understand how that could be better than DTS or THX. Has Disney developed a new standard?

Saturday, 10:30 AM, it's FINALLY here!!! :sohappy: :sohappy: :sohappy: I gotta wait for Julia before watching it, so I'll probably post a review tonight.

One thing I heard, though, is that it doesn't have the "original" original version of the movie, but only the IMAX remastered version, and apparently some of the graphics are different. Anybody can elucidate?

Well, so far I've only had the chance to watch disc 1. The movie looks amazing, so crisp it seems brand new. The new sequence doesn't really add much, and on one of the players we have there's a slight "jump" when the new sequence ended and the regular movie resumes. I still have to test it on other players to see if it was just a fluke. The games are fun, nothing revolutionary. The menus are beautifully done, CGI Zazu is a bit weird but you can get used to it. Our version has previews for Lion King 1 1/2, Brother Bear and Finding Nemo. The deleted scenes are nice, but not really "must haves", it was a good choice to cut them. The Disney Enhanced Mix is phenomenal. We watched on a projector, and it all helped the grandiosity of the movie, especially the opening sequence. I used a receiver but, apparently, even if you have a regular TV you can experience the Mix without problems. It comes mixed in DTS and Dolby 5.1. By the time I finish watching disc 2 you guys will already have received yours, so... We can discuss!

I am gald that The Lion King came out on DVD. The special features are not very special. The "Disney Enhanced Home Theater Mix" is just hype. I can create the same mix with my audio system using the orignial mix. The second disk in the set has nothing of real interest. I suppose that since they knew they had a real winner with the movie, there was no need to add anything extra of real value. The movie was (of course) excellent but the rest was poor.

Hey, if you can create that track at home, good for you! Me, on the other hand, well, I'm stupid, so I'm glad Disney created this mix and I hope they use it on other releases, I've NEVER experienced a more immersive track, it's way better than the regular DTS. As for the extras, the only thing I missed was a piece on the voice cast. Other than that, it was pretty complete and well worth my money.

Obviously, there's no pleasing some people, so it's a pity you didn't like it.

I guess I just expected more. The Platinum editions of Snow White and Beauty and the Beast were great and the special features had lots of great behind the scenes material. The Lion King special features were just too thin by comparison. My expectations were too high. The movie itself was great and the digital transfer was excellent!

While the 1st disc isn't anything to scream about, I think the 2nd disc is quite nice. Its got some interesting stuff in there, though it would have been nicer if they talked about a lot more changes they made (such as the characters they were originally going to put in the film but didn't, ).

But all in all, I thought it was nice.

Oh yes, they needed to have the orginal version on there to choose from the special edition. Pretty obviouse mistake.

Hehe, yeah. This movie is gonna be the best of them all.

Why?

Its The Lion King as seen by Timon and Pumba. You think the animals were bowing their heads for Simba? Uh, NO! They were dropping to their knees because Pumba, well pumba did what he does best.

This movie is great because they use the orignal scenes from The Lion King and add in the scenes with Timon and Pumba.

What cause the tower of animals to fall during the "Cant Wait To Be King" song? Why, it was Timon and Pumba finding out why their neighbors were being so rowdy when they were trying to sleep!

Seriously? Oh MAN! I had heard about the bowing thing, but this one...
I agree with you, the best thing in Lion King, to me, has always been Timon and Pumbaa, and now they get their own movie! It's gonna be great!! But the DVD gives a whole lot of attention to Timon on its extras, I wonder if it was a demand from Nathan Lane or if Ernie Saballa just wasn't available and/or willing to do some of the stuff.

Well, either way, they're both back.

If you want to see the basic run down of the movie, you can either watch the stuff on the dvd for it

or.

you can play the movie on the Lion King 1 1/2 game on Game Boy Advanced, with clips of the movie itself in the game.

I think that LK1.5 could be one of the best if not the best sequel that has been released.

Timon and Pumba, the cartoon, is one of the funniest, and appears to be one of the best animated series.

I'm actually going to buy this sequel.

The best part I think will be the parts leading up to the famous Hula Song.

If your in the mood for a big fat juice peice of meat
Eat my buddie here because he is a treat.
Do the conga line, just get in line, all ya have to do it get in line (I think thats what that verse said)

Are ya achin
(Yep Yep Yep)
For some bacon
(Yep Yep Yep)
He's a big pig
(Yep Yep Yep)
You can be a big pig too, oi!

Classic.

*Runs off to watch the scene.

I thought the 1st disc was ok too. I enjoyed the 2nd disc, featuring AK, AKL, etc... But mostly for the stuff on the music and the Broadway play. I love the play and the music in the film and musical.

It's been so long since I've seen LK, but I don't know that I would have known that the original version wasn't available on the DVD. I think we've got a VHS copy around somewhere, but I haven't watched it ever I don't think.

If you are right then Walt was obviously wrong. You can top pigs with pigs!

I *think* he means that Disney wants to throw more pigs (Pumbaa in Lion King 1 1/2) for those who liked the pigs previously (Pumbaa in Lion King 1). It was a pun, get it? :lookaroun

Not a damn bit, I dont get it one bit anyways

Heres the correct lyrics:

Simba: Live Bait

Timon: Good idea, Hey!

Simba: Come on Timon

Timon: What do you want me to do? Dress in drag and do the hula?!

Luau!

If your in the mood for a hunk
of fat and juicy meat

Eat my buddie Pumbaa here
because he is a treat

Come on down and dine
on this tasty swine

All you have to do
is get in line

Are you achin'
(Yep, Yep, Yep)
For some bacon?
(Yep, Yep, Yep)
He's a big pig
(Yep, Yep)
You can be a big pig too, oy!
