the envelopes on the left side of the threads what are the different colors? do you understand what I am saying oh and what is up with them being open or closed? Thank you in advance

It all has to do with how many responses each thread has. Look at the envelopes in relation to how much traffic each thread has seen and you'll find your pattern.
