The Laugh Floor

I was reading my monthly Disney Hello that I signed up for and there was a very intersting article on the Laugh Floor. It goes into a little depth about how this attraction will work and confirms the fact that the attraction will be opening up late January 2007. Here's the article. (I didn't see this posted anywhere...so if it has...sorry  )

What's Happening for Disney Hello said:
SOMETHING MONSTROUSLY FUNNY IS COMING

Mike Wazowski's opening a comedy club at Magic Kingdom® Park-and you could be part of it!

At the end of Disney·Pixar's Monsters, Inc., the citizens of Monstropolis discovered the wondrous power of human laughter. And at the new movie-inspired Monsters, Inc. The Laugh Floor Comedy Club, your laughter has the potential to light up the city. At least, that's the theory of your monstrous old pal, Mike Wazowski.

"Mike had the bright idea that, instead of going from closet to closet getting laughs, why don't they gather humans into their world in one place to get a bunch of laughs all at once?" explained Steven Spiegel, Director, Show Writing at Walt Disney Imagineering.

Enter a fantastic and funny world
"When you enter from Tomorrowland®, you'll be invited to walk through a doorway to the monster world," he continues. "Inside the comedy club, there are 'laugh canisters' to contain the power as the audience laughs. And as part of the audience, there's a chance that you could be trading quips with one of Mike's friends-monsters who are getting their big break in show biz."

Some of the monsters are more experienced at comedy than others, so part of the fun is seeing if different sets of performers "hits the big time" each time you visit. Disney Imagineers have teamed with Pixar artists to create wacky new characters especially for the new attraction, and these mirthful monsters will be doing a variety of humor, from improv and one-liners to prop comedy and physical gags.

The audience is part of the fun
The one thing they will all have in common is the fun they'll share with Guests like you throughout the laugh fest. And everyone will fall under the watchful gaze and wisecracking wit of Roz, who is there to make sure the whole thing meets her expectations.

Opening late January 2007, Walt Disney World® Resort Monsters, Inc. The Laugh Floor Comedy Club takes the "living animated character" technology that has made attractions like Turtle Talk With Crush, inspired by Disney·Pixar's Finding Nemo, such beloved Disney Theme Park "must-sees." The new attraction takes this magic further than even the Disney Imagineers believed could be possible.

"I love doing these attractions and having guests come up to me and say 'How did you do that?', especially in this day and age when so much is possible with home entertainment systems and computers," Steve said. "It's just wonderful to see the reactions-especially from the little kids because, like us, they believe in the magic anyway.

"They figure they should be able to talk to the characters. We're just helping prove their point."

Thanks! Awesome find, while it sounds similar to TTwC I think we are going to see a lot more from the sounds of this article and others. I can't wait to see it even though its going to be a little while before I get back down to the world this attraction is sounding like it might be a worthy replacement for timekeeper. RIP Timekeeper.

What is this Disney Hello you speak of, and where can I sign up?

Awesome article btw. It just makes me that much more excited about it. I hope they have some preshow for those people who haven't seen the movie, so they know what their laughter is being "contained" for. It sounds great otherwise!

Good read, thanks for posting it! I really like the premise of the attraction, continuing on the end of the movie, but in a different way. I can't wait to see it!

I actually don't know how I got signed up for it. All of the sudden in April of this year I started recieving it. I think it's one of those things where when you sign up on the Disney site and check to recieve info from the Walt Disney Company.

It's a monthly newsletter that you get much like the Disney Insider, but this one is soley about the theme parks. It's really a great newsletter that gets sent out.

The attraction sounds like a great time! I'm not completely convinced it belongs in the general theme of Tomorrowland, but that is entirely another matter. Looking forward to seeing it in action!

I got this, too. I was quite excited to hear about it opening in late Jan. I'm hoping it'll be up for our Jan trip (but that may be too early.....maybe an AP preview???:D:D:sohappy::sohappy:) If not, I guess I'll catch it in Feb.

Im still not seeing its tie in with TL but I guess they know what they're doing, or atleast I hope. I still am eager to see this thing, hopefully it wont suck and be given bad reviews by so many like SGE did.

Obviously in the future we will have doorways that take us to another realm, the Monster's Inc. Realm. :)

If Stitch can fit in TL(and no one complains about the location, just the show) then walking, talking monsters that use laughter as power can fit as well.

Yeah but Sitich is an alien. This seems more apt for Fantasyland or MGM. Anyway, I'm still not excited about this thing. The technology is great, but I'm not sure how this will warrant repeat visits for me. Hate to be a pessimist, but I'm sure the 'jokes' will be groaners. I'm hoping to be surprised though...

Yeah, as much as I am still trying to withhold judgment until I see the finished product, I'm still not understanding why this is in Tomorrowland rather than Fantasyland.

Aliens = space travel = future
Monsters = fantasy

Now granted, there's a blurry line between science fiction and fantasy, so that a lot of the sci-fi stuff in Tomorrowland could potentially go in Fantasyland as well, but monsters don't evoke "future" to me the way aliens (even cartoon ones) do.

I'm excited about the attraction, though. I hope the outside is well-themed to the area.

I woldn't worry about the jokes. Recruitment of performers from the Comedy Warehouse and The Adventurers Club at Downtown Disney shows the type of entertainer they are looking for: improv artists. Although they will need to keep the material 'family friendly', it promises to be a different, funny show every time: expect to see things similar to the broadcast episodes of "Who's Line Is It Anyway?".

I would certainly hope for some laughs! Turtle Talk was very funny when I saw it, and we have a very different show every time based on the character interactions with the audience. I'm hoping for a very similar effect from this show. Very spontaneous but still family friendly and funny.

I'm kind of surprised we haven't heard any updates on construction progress. When SGE was being put together there were updates about every week. Any one know how things are going with the theater change over?

Looking forward to seeing the show when we are there in Jan.:D

Sounds good, considering I'm a huge fan of both CW and AC. Wasn't aware of this, and it does make me a bit more interested.

That's what I was thinking too - any of you frequent visitors know if you can see into the building anymore? I remember when construction first began there were pictures taken from the TTA. Anyone? :drevil:
