The Land

Does anyone know if there are any plans to possibly reopen the Odysey Restuarant or the Pizza Pizzaz after the Land closes for rehab and once it reopens with a smaller food court? With the Sunshine Season Food Court being closed and eventually reduced in size, that only leaves the Electric Umbrella for fast food in Future World. It already gets crowded at the Electric Umbrella, which isn't going to be able to handle the crowds during peak times. Any thoughts??

From what I heard, the food court will increase in size.
I certainly hope that is does. We've eaten there several times and enjoyed it every time. I would hate to see it go away or even made smaller. It would be nice for it to be made larger.

When we were there last week they were repainting the Odyssey restaurant, but I assumed this was because they were using it for the food and wine festival. I certainly do hope that, if they get rid of the sunshine food fair, they open some other fast food in Future World.

When Epcot was in its prime, there was the Stargate Restaurant (Now Electric Umbrella), the Sunrise Terrace (Now the defunct fast food pizza place in Innoventions), the Sunshine Season Food Fair, and the Odysey, all of which were quick service places. Now there is just the Electric Umbrella and Sunshine Season.

With what I have read, when The Land reopens, the food court will be no more and will be replaced with a much smaller food service operation. How does Epcot plan to deal with the obvious reduced capacity in dining options in Future World? Whenever I am in The Land, it is very hard to find a table now. The same goes for the Electric Umbrella. I think it would be great to bring the Odysey back to full operation. It seems like a lot of people have no idea what that building in the middle of the water is for.

I'm confused... The food court on the lower level is getting down-sized? What's going to happen to that revolving restaurant on the upper level?

Oh, and speaking from a west-coast perspective, Epcot could be in line for a lot more mobile service carts if the other fast food options are shrinking. It became a pretty big problem at DL that they're now trying to correct. Obviously, Epcot has tons of open space, so crowding isn't a problem, but it's a lot nicer to have the food options mainly indoors.

The capacity at the food location in The Land will not be THAT much smaller.
Some, yeah....but not that much. And it will be much more efficient.

Disney knows at this point that Florida Residents go to Epcot all the time, and they usually want to eat at a sit-down eatery in World Showcase. I'm betting that Disney is thinking that most people want to have a sit-down meal in Epcot rather than a quick-service meal.

Personally, I think that's a grave mistake, and that a theme park needs both. And I know some of you will totally ignore me with the impression that I don't have a clue as to what I'm talking about. Well, to you I say, DCA. Why DCA? it opened with a slew of sit-down eateries. So many in fact that they needed to be shut down. When DCA was built, Disney had the impression that people want to eat at a sit-down place all the time because the eateries in Epcot do so well. Obviously wasn't the case in DCA, and it's not really the case in Future World of Epcot.

I agree with you. You cannot have all fast food eateries or all sit down restaurants, there needs to be a mix. Eating a sit down meal all the time can get expensive and eating fast food all the time can get to be too much. My personal opinion is that I don't neccesarily care whether there are multiple fast food eateries in Future World or not. My main issue is with capacity and service. If the Electric Umbrella could handle increased traffic due to other eateries closed, that would be no problem, so long as service isn't compromised. However, I feel that it can't handle the increased volume. I have been there several times on a busy day at a busy eating time, and it is hard to find a table. That is why an additional venue such as the Odysey should be utilized to alleviate this problem. If I walk into the Electric Umbrella, see gigantic lines, and no tables, I am going to leave. BTW, this is happens at Cosmic Rays to me a lot. I have even seen people siting on the floor there.

It would be one thing if there simply were not any additional places to handle overflow crowds, but there are, and these spaces are underutilized.

As of right now, I believe Garden Grill will reopen on April 6 or 7. I'll double check on that though.

Do you (or anyone) happen to know when the Garden Grill will close? Is it closing with the Land around the beg. of Jan.?

We will be at Disney from 1/20-1/28 2005 and were wondering if Garden Grill will be closed at that time?

thanks
