The land of Oz in MGM's film feels very small, fake, not to mention whimsical and musical, which (and there's nothing making a fantasy movie a musical with experienced musicians), except that Baum's Oz is supposed to be vast and adventurous, with many strange inhabitants and dangers. RTO's Oz and the Nome King's Lair; particularly in the ornament hall; looks very vast and meets with the levels as the books do. Some of MGM's Oz characters really are the biggest falls of the film, most namingly, the Tin Woodsman, and Glinda The "Good" Witch Of The North.
I wouldn't say small and cheap, your talking about a film produced in 1939 it was possibly one of the largest and grandest films ever created.. It's impressive knowing that its only 23 years away from being a 100 year old film and people still watch it.

I mean that you can tell that somethings are fake, like some plants in the Munchkins' village, and others look real, like the costuming and makeup.
Oh yea, they were utilizing theatre technology of the time. All the backdrops are hand painted and what.. Look at the changes in Theater over the last 77 years its just how new advances in technology have helped.. Heck Styrofoam and Plastic didn't even exist at the time. :D

Shall I spark conversation back up again with a series of Kansas music video screenshots?
