Yes and no. The film is 50 years old, but it's still such an iconic piece of cinema that it shouldn't be touched. I'd honestly liken it to The Wizard of Oz being remade (I'm ignoring Great and Powerful and Return to Oz, as those weren't really remakes.)

Now, Interstellar was a very good movie, it just bothered me how hard it tried to be 2001. Literally in every way. Also Sprach Zarathustra shows up far too much in Zimmer's score. It's good, but it kind of crosses the line in terms of being an homage in a few ways.

I can understand your rational, we shall just have to agree to differ. Like how most ppl think I'm crazy cause I don't care for Finding Nemo.
