I think the best part overall was the preview for Kubo and the Two Strings. That looks like a stunningly amazing beautiful movie.
I didn't get a preview for that. I think the IMAX previews were different, because they were really strange. The directors came on before each movies preview, and they made a point to make us know that we can experience it in IMAX. Alice looked amazing on that screen though

It's funny because I feel like the Disney fan community at large has basically turned their back on Through the Looking Glass entirely. I'm not jumping up and down excited about the movie but I do think it has a lot of potential to at least be better than the first one (and sorry to fans of the first but I'm in the camp that thinks that movie's a bit of a mess :p )

A lot of the times a movie comes down to having a good director, and I think James Bobin is an excellent choice. It's funny, I remember back in the 90s during Burton's hey day I always WANTED him to do an Alice in Wonderland movie, but by the time he got to it he had peaked as a director.

Bobin did a fantastic job reviving the Muppets, so I have to think he knows what he's doing here. I'm definitely going to at least give the movie a chance. It'll probably get buried at the box office by X-Men: Apocalypse which I don't really have a ton of interest in...

It's funny, I think a combination of Depp and Burton being such close friends and Depp exploding in Hollywood after Pirates really did lead to the downslide in Burton's career. Every movie he made for a large stretch of time felt like the same thing...Creepy Depp in pale makeup and Helena Boneham Carter as a co-lead. Big Fish was the last movie Burton made that I feel is a true masterpiece and is actually kind of the peak of his career for me.

I ran a movie forum on Proboards back in the day, and we used to joke about Johnny Depp as the Mad Hatter and Helena Boneham Carter as the Queen of Hearts being the most obvious casting choices ever if Burton were do to an Alice movie YEARS before it actually happened :p :p

Have you sat through the Christmas Special...

Yes I have. It's clunky as hell and most of it doesn't work, but it's a nice odd time capsule and I think it's cool that it's the second piece of Star Wars media ever after A New Hope and introduced Boba Fett.

Having said that, having "shot first" as a dance move does give the Solo Dance a bit more credibility. I still think it's pretty damn cringe-worthy.
