The Haunted Mansion Spider?

Well, I just spent like a whole day reading everything on doombuggies and they said something about a giant spider web that used to exist where the staircases are now. In the spider web, there was a man screaming with a spider not to far from him. I found this bit of information very interesting. If this is true, does anyone have any photos? Or has anyone seen the effect?

It said that it was there for the first few weeks of The Haunted Mansion but they took it down due to it either being too scary or the effect not working. I forgot. But since I know that we have some people who visited the park back in the 70's, I figured that someone would at least know a little more about it.

There have been talks about it on here in the past. This article talks about the many spiders that have roamed through many disney attractions

But until there is sheer proof of a photo..It's as mysterious as the Hat Box Ghost AA.

Yeah, that's why I said I didn't think that was in question. OP almost sounded like he was unsure the spider was there at all. Cool.

Side note: Look at all the morons who must have spit in the spider's general direction? Shame on them and shame on Disney for not maintaining their rides. Despite the despicable behavior, it happens and Disney needs to clean it up. It's all over Space Mountain too.

That seems like one of those things that wouldn't fit in the spirit of the Mansion.... too explicitly morbid, when the rest of the Mansion is more subtly creepy. I also thought it was neat how the graveyard keeper is the only mortal human that appears in the whole ride, besides the rider... this would mean there were 2. :dazzle:

Prior to opening date or AFTER? Was this effect actually ever visible to any guests?

I didn't go until March of 1972...so it precedes my first visit. :shrug:

I think it was only there for a few weeks after opening.

It just seems interesting that Both Mansions have a mystery DL's Hatbox ghost and MK's Spider Man.

From what I can recall from my days of frequenting Doombuggies.com 's message board, the only physical proof that's ever been found for the spider web occupant was a manifest list of all the effects,figures, etc. for maintenance purposes - it listed that figure as originally being there. I do find it interesting though that you'd think *someone* would have taken a pic of it back then if it was actually there when the HM had opened to the public and yet nada has ever turned up...

Hatbox Ghost is hardly a mystery. At this point, it's pretty well established that he was there during testing and a short while for guests before being removed as the effect didn't work as intended.

The Spider Man might be a mystery. I haven't done much looking into it to find out.
