Bassman, I think that the alien that pops out from the side is primarily seen from the second car, so it can be easily missed. The alien from the top attacks the first car so if you are in the first car you might have missed the second alien. Maybe it just wasn't working too.

Attacks is too strong a word. I once described these figures as bankers leaning forward to give you some change.

I LOVE the Great Movie Ride. My favorite part is the Wizard of Oz section. I actually feel like I am in Munchkin Land.

It's been doing that since the beginning--even when it was only a couple of years old, things were always breaking down on us (I was there summers of '90 and '91). In fact, I remember there was a hieroglyphic in the Raiders scene that said "101" to make fun of the fact that it was always going "101" (Disneyese for "broke down").

Funniest incident for me was coming into the Tarzan scene and instead of seeing Tarzan swinging by, he was lying, flat on his back. I don't remember what I said. Probably laughing too hard to say anything.

Also heard from others that one of the Munchkins' heads popped off and that the witch's arm came off and the socket spewed red hydraulic fluid. Makes me think of the Black Knight... I never witnessed those, though, so they may be false, but funny anyway. :D

haha the 101 is still in Raiders. Once I came into Oz and the witches arms were like pinned back and her head was almost falling off! It was great, a kid screamed! I just laughed.

I like the GMR and all, but I agree that it needs an update... I don't mean that they should change the movies that are referenced in the ride (once a classic, always a classic) but maybe change up the routines or, better yet, have a live actor in each of the stages. I think they could make it so there are multiple ride patterns (kinda like Tower of Terror) depending on who jumped into your car. I don't know the logistics of it all, but I'm sure they could figure something out. It would freshen the whole ride up without upsetting the purists (too much anyways)... and I don't think the # of CMs involved would increase too much (and certainly not more than a show like Beauty and the Beast). I always think about this when I go to MGM... anyone else see the potential for such a thing? (I know it won't happen - this is just one of those "wouldn't it be cool?" sorta things)

Ok, back to your regularly scheduled thread...

I see the need to update the ride, but I dont know what could be taken out and what could be put in. Disney hasn't had much success in live-action, post-Mary Poppins, and so the rights for films may be too much to deal with. Disney could put some more characters in some sequences, but I think the only film in there that could be replaced is Alien, and since I love that movie I don't want it to be replaced. The Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, and the western, horror, and ganster scenes aren't going anywhere, so it will be tough to update the ride. I say update the film (does Good Morning Vietnam belong in the film of the greatest films ever? The 9 minute "100 years of film" on TCM is much better than the film in the ride.

Take out Tarzan. Really. It's not very great and the constant yelling can be heard all the way past Casablanca into Munchkinland.

When I heard that Ingrid Bergman's grandchildren came to the Ride to see their gramma's AA, I pictured the kids watching the thing move it's lips while the scream kept coming in from the next room.

From what i remember the belt buckle that john wayne wears is one of his own that was donated by the family. They felt that it was a proper tribute.

I saw the most recent GMR montage on Google Video and it looks like the "Fatal Attraction" clip is no longer in there.

I'm surprised that the clip from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" is still in there. I expect that to come out in the next update (unfortunately...Disney and Spielberg need to patch it up, really).

Sincerely,
