:p

Beowulf?! You can't read Beowulf?! Josh, you lazy snud.... That's the first piece of literature written in the English language that we have.... It's written in OLD English--anything you read is a TRANSLATION into modern English! It's the premise for every monster story ever told.... Every horror film pays homage to it.... Prentice-Hall text uses an easy-to-follow translation, although I recommend picking up the newly-published Seamus Heaney translation from the library. It came out last year, and Heaney has an amazing gift for words.... It's an exciting story, you goofball, and you need to have a gratitude moment your butt isn't in a chair in my classroom or I'd be relentless about you studying....

Beowulf is also important because it's a historical document giving us insight into the timeperiod. Watch for the juggling of Christian and pagan elements--you can see where the monks inserted Christianity right into the original story.... Also, it has great use of light and darkness as symbolism (hello... someone just saved you $4.50 for the Cliff notes... ;) ).... You need to know that a kenning is a two-word phrase to stand for another noun--such as "bear's lair" for cave or "whale's home" for the ocean. This was important to a) provide variety in the language and b) make it easier to maintain rhyme and rhythm. The British still use rhyme far more than Americans in every day life... It's a cultural thing.... You need to pay attention to the cast of characters in the beginning: Beowulf is Edgetho's son, and Hrothgar is the king and Herot is the mead-hall (Marky lounges about mead halls all the time ;) ) (mead is a drink made of fermented honey=alcohol) for his men to relax in. Last year I taught Beowulf in a Viking helmet....

3DO was great for puzzle games... Much more thoughtful than the stuff for the other platforms.... Was always a favorite of mine--too bad it never really caught on...

<puts on geek glasses>

3D0 failed due to the licencing granted by panasonic to allow other companies to make the system in other devices such as standard CD players. Too many peolpe got confused...and thus..didnt buy the system. Game makers saw this and got scared...no games..no market.

The good side of all this is I buy 3d0 games dirt cheap thru E-bay :)

I work at Target, and I opened the store today. When we opened the doors at 8 am, there was nobody waiting outside the doors. As of 4 pm when I left we still had 4 out of the original 18 x-boxes we had in. We've already been asked by people if we'd let them camp out on our front walk over night for the gamecube however.....I'll be one of them. :)

You did, but the notes are still valid. ;)

And NowInc, it broke my heart when I realized the 3DO titles were dropping from the new release schedules... Phillips tried to revive it, but it was too late... :( But that is good news for you! :) EB cleared out the last of the stock at $25 for the hardware and $10/title on the software years ago... Never did pick one up...

Stores here have already been selling the gamecube for 2 days now...its selling BADLY compaired to X-box. We had over 40 people waiting outside of the local best buy this morning waiting for it...I guess it all depends on what state you are in...

Well I'm a total Tony Hawk Pro Skater Addict! THPS3 is going to be my first game followed by silent Hill 2. The first Silent Hill is probably my second favorite PS game. I'm unstoppable at THPS. I just need some new levels and parks to skate!
