@Willmark , any updates on your garden? You mentioned back in early July that the growing season was slow this year, due to all the rain, etc. Just wondering if most of your plants are growing nicely, at this point. :)

This year has been about perseverance. Weather has been all over the place. Some things are growing others are not but some yields are about to happen.

Chalked this year up to a lot of learning. Weather was all over the place that caused some problems.

The stuff I got had later problems too: example: Potatoes all got blight once out of the ground. Tomatoes and carrots did well. Berries and apples likewise did well. Strawberries are going to be mammoth next year as the barrels are overflowing with plants right now.

My green wall project was installed.

48 arborvaite. Bobcat w/ 24" auger - from 1st hole to equipment return was 80 minutes.

Have problems with 2 plants, high clay content located near sprinkler system auto drain. Every time zone fires, entire zone drains in close proximity regardless of zone activation time. Think I swamped them

The like is for next year’s strawberries.

Sad to hear of the blighty potatoes.

My potatoes wound up being a bumper crop but everything else was not to say the least. My kale hardly grew but is starting to do well now:rolleyes::cautious::eek::banghead::hilarious: Tomatoes were so so and late, hot peppers were a bust but lettuce did well late into summer:eek: To say this growing season was weird would be putting it mildly

Sounds like you had more successes than failures, even in spite of unusual weather patterns. (So maybe next year, enjoy what grows well in your garden, and then just buy a few occasional bags of potatoes, at the grocery store.) :)

Gotta love the “extended summer” here in Chicago.
Still have tomatoes, celery, green beans, honey nut squash, and jalapeños growing.
I can’t tell if it’s been an awesome year for tomatoes or if I just planted so many😳.
My new favorite tomato variety is Juliet, great for salsa and sauces.

This certainly was a crazy weather year for crops.

A lot of things ripened 2 weeks sooner than they should have so they were not really done growing and then they started rotting.
This was the case with tomatoes and peppers.

Our winter squash is definitely smaller than usual.

Pumpkins turned out absolutely beautiful though!

And have plenty of green beans! In fact I'm making green bean salad as a side tonight which is one of my absolute favorites.

It was the funnest thing ever since playing in the sandbox as a child. Roughest part was transitioning from flat ground to a 10 degree decline. You had to elevate the auger to see where you were going.

As you crossed over to the decline, it would lurch forward. Instinct would make you push forward on the joystick and plant your feet. With the throttle at your feet and joystick as accelerator, the faster the forward lurch. Realizing the forward lurch, I would pull back and lurch backward. Then I would over correct going forward. So here I am in a bobcat literally jumping back and forth with all the neighbors on their porches laughing. A little embarrassing.

Still picking black eyed peas and eggplant. Planted green beans, kale, cabbage. collards. Have lettuce and carrots started in the green house. We have a mystery squash growing out of the compost pile full of unknown squash can't wait for them to ripen see what they taste like.

I'm jealous of those of you that had some bumper crops this year. I actually tried to do a good job with my garden this year and only my herbs and tomatoes did okay, oh and one pepperoncini pepper plant did great. But my beans, zucchini, cucumbers, and pumpkins did nothing. Oh they flowered but never got anything. I really feel like a failure with the zucchini not doing anything, that usually grows like a weed for people.

I have been talking to a retiree that substitute teaches at our building, he's been in a lot lately, and he is a superb gardener. He has been giving me some idea. The big thing I'm going to do for winter is add some more nutrients to the soil, mulch and such. Hopefully next year will be better.

Don't feel bad my zukes didn't do well either. I swear it was the crazy weather

Been cool spring here in SC but got everything planted. Tomatoes plants have tomatoes and loads of flowers on them. Had a late freeze and lost most of the blueberries might get a hand full. Corn is up about a foot, snow peas are about to flower.
