The Empress Room vs Victoria & Albert's

Does anyone remember The Empress Room? I think it was a four star restaurant located on the upper level of the Empress Lily Riverboat. My family ate there when I was a teenager - an AMAZING experience! (I must admit I was very sad to see the Empress Lily taken over by Fulton's. I LOVED to just walk around that boat, it was beautiful!)

I am wondering how it compares to Victoria & Albert's. Is V&A just a larger incarnation of the same restaurant?

While I don't remember The Empress Room, V&A is a 5 diamond restaurant, so it would have one diamond/star up on The Empress Room.

It is simply an amazing experience though. Definately not a meal, but an event. Problem is I can't convince DW that we need to try the chef's table. Her being a restaurant manager, I cannot get her to set foot in a kitchen. I was absolutely SHOCKED when she took the galley tour on DCL on our last cruise.

I too remember the Empress Room from the late '70's... It had a unique atmoshphere being on the second deck of the Empress Lily, which was so beautiful before it became Fulton's. I wish it were still there.

V&A is no less impressive... Although it's a different experience. The level of service and food quality is impeccable, which will remind you of the Empress Room. V&A offers a prix fixe menu while Empress Room was a la carte. Anyway, they're both incomparable.

When my wife and I went to V&A a couple of years ago, I couldn't believe I recognized one of the servers from the Empress Room and spoke with him for awhile... That was really interesting. On our next visit, we want to try the chef's table.

I know you won't be disappointed with V&A, but you still might miss the Empress Room as I do.

What is the difference between the regular restaurant and the chef's table? I know the location is obvious, but what makes it different or "special". I will be trying this restaurant for the first time this Sept on our first night there.

I know of at least one difference

While I've not yet been to Victoria & Albert's (though I have reservations for October and am excited about that) I know of at least one difference. While the 'regular' dining experience is a 6-7 course fixed-price menu that allows you to choose items from a variety of offerings, I understand that the Chef's table provides a 10 course tasting menu selected entirely by the chef (making allowances for personal dietary restrictions). If there are any other significant differences, I'm sure someone else will chime in ....

Thanks for letting me know. Even the chef's table seems cool, I am happy that we are not doing that since I am a picky eater and need choices.
