i wonder who did pay for it, i doubt the studio only because its NBC and NBC is owned by Universal, so why would that company pay for a trip for a family to go to there Competitions play ground?

Actually, Ellen's show is filmed on the Warner Bros. lot and produced by Warner Bros...her show is syndicated, so it may air on your local NBC affiliate, but it's not an NBC show (for example, it used to air on my CBS affiliate here in Bflo, now airs on the NBC affiliate).

Still, I am surprised at the recent Disney prizes she is giving away...when her show travels to Orlando every year, she films at Universal, and she has seemed to shy away from anything Disney since the show began (Jason Alexander from "Seinfeld" once told her that his favorite performance of hers was at UoE! I almost died - I think she's hilarious in that too. Anyway, she said she had never seen it and quickly changed the subject).

I saw this show as well. I hope this doesnt sound like sour grapes because it was nice to see a family who was excited to win a prize (the little boy started crying) But it did seem like a huge prize to give away to this family.

Ellen showed that she had met them a couple days before and danced with the little boy in the audience. She then found out about their story (that the mom worked 6 days a week to raise 4 kids) Maybe there is more to the story that they didnt tell, but a 15-16? day trip around the world to visit all the Disney parks? The first thing I thought was, I know the trip is paid for but how is this woman going to take off for 2-3 weeks of work? And it seems they usually give these larger prizes to Iraq veteran families or Make a Wish Families.
Again not that I'm not happy for the family but it seem like such a big prize for the circumstances. I sure they would have been thrilled with a week in WDW.
Anyone else feel the same when they saw this....or did I just put a big damper on this families happy moment:(

Ya, it use to air on our NBC affiliate until a year or two ago, but then moved up two hours and switched to our ABC affiliate.

It is also on our ABC affiliate, but will hopefully be switching soon as that channel feels the need to air a 4 o'clock news report, giving me Ellen at 5. :hammer:
