I can tell you this...It is worth it! My soon to wife and I are 27 and 37 and have no kids....this past year we join the DVC with 150 points ....6 months later we bout 50 more :)

We went to DL and stayed at the Grand Californian on points, WdW at Saratoga on points. We have a week this coming June at Hilton Head and a week next Oct at the Grand Floridian.

For us we have gotten WAY over our moneys worth as we plan out vacations WAY in advance... If you are a short term planner and lets say in Oct you want to makes plans to stay at the Boardwalk in on Dec 25 that might not be available.

But if you take you time and plan how, when and where to use your points you will be :sohappy:

Can anyone quickly give a run down on how much you shell out for the DVC? I'm interested in doing it, but never get around to actually booking an appt for the "spiel"

If you are interested at all, you need to get the DVC information from Disney and review it, then contact a DVC CM with questions. You are likely to get alot of different information here, because not everyone bought into the DVC for the same point price, not everyone has the same amount of points, and not everyone bought in at the same resort.

Call and get the book as well. The DVD is good... it's fluffy.. the book get's down to some sales numbers, etc. I found the info good and it gave me many questions to ask my sales guy.

I think where I get a little fuzzy is what am I shelling out the money on? Is it for a time-share? Or, is it for the point system? Am I buying a time-share? I guess those are the questions I need to be asking the CMs, huh? ;)

You are purchasing an "interest" in a "unit" at a Disney Vacation Club resort. You utilize your "unit" based on a schedule that is basically controlled by points. (i.e. if you go during Christmas, it takes more points...you will be given a schedule of when peak, non peak, holiday, and off season are....)

All this will be explained in the information you get. Take notes and jot down questions as you watch and read the info. Then when you contact your representative, ask those specific questions.

A lot of resources are available on the net.

However, about 90% of the folks that get everything on the net still end up going to the Open House.

It's like buying a car or a home, most people want to see it, touch it, and the personalized experience you get in person at the Open House can't be replicated any other way.
