The Disney "rule"?

Maybe I'm mistaken! Oh well, I thought that once you got past the turnstiles, about half-way down the queue, the lines merged back together. Maybe I'm thinking about something else?

It may depend on the line you are in. I know that PotC have 2 seperate sides and the lines go to both. Then again, maybe one is a fastpass line, but I know at night we pick a side and go.

I've read this too. A good example is when we go to Hersheypark in Hershey PA every summer, we go on the chocolate tour ride. The ride has three lines, and the right and middle line are always long, where as the left line NEVER has anyone in it.

You just have to be careful in Disney, esp in food lines. Sometimes some lines serve soup and salad, while another line will sell sandwiches, etc.

I'm a lefty too, so I always tend to prefer the left.

When I went to WDW this rule was most always right. Withthe exception of Space Mountain. Enjoy. ;)
Isn't the right line for Space a Fastpass line and the left the stand-by?

It might work that way sometimes, I'm not sure, but I've mostly seen it this way: The person at the merge point just before the control tower alternates between the FP and SB lines, putting the people into whatever side has less people at the moment.

I have to agree. I am a lefty, so I take the left hand line. About 80% of the time I got onto the ride faster than someone next to me when I got in line. However sometimes it really wasn't a big jump, maybe one or two people ahead of that person. So give it a try.

This is a time when us "Lefties" may have an advantage! :D

I think this left-right thing is a mass psychology thing. Most people favor their right side so, when presented with a choice, they tend to err to the right. Usually the lines are balanced out at some point in the queue but, at PotC for example, you can't see the line usually and if you sit out front and watch, about 65-70% of people go to the right. They just get balanced out further into the fortress because of people who do stuff like duck ropes to the other side and stuff but it is a DEFINITE trend.

I'm about 95% ambidextrous (sp) so I usually can't decide and end up running into the pole between the two sides. :p

The "Everyone-Goes-To-The-Right Theory" is official in Disney World. When I went on the Keys to the Kingdom Tour, my guide told us all about it. First of all, the right side of Main Street is larger (sidewalk). Tommorowland (on the right) is twice the size of Adventureland (on the left). With some exceptions (Small World) for any ride with a right/left line, the left will always be physically shorter and skinnier. Even if the left line seems to be longer, it will take a shorter amount of time. Now you may be saying that a ride like Splash Mountain would not fit this as both lines are side-by-side the whole time. Although that is true, the width of the right size is larger than the left side.

Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay thank you I was about to write this. This is actually in my textbook. Of course I am majoring in Hospitality Management and half my books all have a lot of emphasis on Disney.

The MAIN REASON for the right handed wideness is because more people are right handed. When you DON'T KNOW the parks and are faced witha decision you do not know much about you will go with whatever you do know and most people know how to do things right handedly.

This rule does not apply to everything in Disney, but most.

I know that the last two times I went to MK and went over to PotC, I went to the left and spent a grand total of 15 minutes in line for both times. And the thing is that the first of those two times I walked right on so the majority of my wait time was my trip last week. And there was still a really decent line down the right hand side. For those asking about the merge of the lines, it may have at one point in history, but now the line to the right will set you into the front boat and the line to the left will set you into the rear boat when there are two boats waiting to load.

So not only is the left line quicker, it's shorter and gets you loaded (not that loaded! ) onto some rides quicker. Go to the MK on an early entry day. The only people who go left are the ones going to the Crystal Palace for breakfast!! Adventureland is empty at park opening (those going left do so through the hub first to get to Splash and BTMRR).

I have also noticed that the left line is shorter on many rides than the right line. The exception to the rule is the Tomorrowland Speedway. When you get to the point that the line splits into 2 lines, and if the lines are equal... always pick the right side.

The "go to the left" theory worked for the entrance to MK. After bag search, there was a huge mob straight ahead and to the right. Turnstiles on the left were empty--until we got there.

I always walk on the left side of Main Street--through the air-conditioned buildings.

After reading this I though hard about how I do the parks. MK, and Epcot I sort of go left, and in MGM and AK, I walk sparatically(sp?) through the park. And I'm right-handed, so go figure. Will defineately try left lines this time.

I've heard something similar to this "rule"...

It also applies for World Showcase Promenade, I believe. People tend to start on one side (Canada, I think, on the right) and move counterclockwise towards Mexico. But you really should go clockwise starting at Mexico on the left.

(Or maybe I'm completely befuddled and don't know my right or left NOR what I'm talking about!)

In WSP both times we've been it's clockwise for us:)

PS don't tell everybody will be doing it:lookaroun

Or at WS, you can catch a boat across the lagoon and then work your way back around clockwise or ccw and you'll be going against the traffic of everyone else.
