It's only really "overusing" if it doesn't work out...
Have they not proven their ability to screw things up yet?

And I’m not talking “quality”...I’m talking the wrong “goals” and wrong “up and comers” making the material who don’t know what they’re dealing with. Like having your electrician do your dental work.

Harrison Ford, DOB: July 13, 1942.

Since Harrison will be 80 when the next Indy movie arrives, I vote for calling it Indiana Jones and the Titanium Hip.

I’m hoping they cancel it or take a completely different approach.

Trying to forcefeed ford here is as bad of an idea as the last time

Who exactly was clamoring for a remake of 3 Men and a Baby or Sister Act 3? Are they really THAT out of ideas? *shudder*

I should be super excited for Ahsoka, as her character is a personal favorite. However, the track record for Disney plus Star Wars ain't exactly great. I'm afraid that having Dave Filoni & Jon Favreau working on a bazillion different projects doesn't seem like that's going to work out well. They are good, but they are only human and there are only so many hours in the day to produce quality work. I hope I'm wrong.

Thank you @truecoat for the list-o-rama!

Shout out to @TP2000 for the Three's Company reference. Every time that WDW restaurant's name shows up in an article or forum post my brain lights up with "Come and knock on our door....".

Thank you so much for getting it! I worry that there's too many youngsters here who aren't getting it.

I offer you this as an early Christmas gift, my friend. It's actually the version of the theme song from the early 1980's, but for some reason in the early 80's it got even funkier and more Disco sounding than the original 1977 theme song.
Dondez rondez de'vous! (Or something like that)

Disneyland Fun Fact: I once saw Jack Ritter at DCA! This was in the early 2000's, and he was being boarded onto California Screamin' by a Disneyland tour guide in plaid and a gaggle of hangers-on. I think this was during one of those cheesy ABC Prime Time Weekends that DCA hosted in the early 2000's, and Mr. Ritter must have had an ABC show at that time. He seemed very friendly and down to earth.

He was on the ABC show 8 Simple Rules, he was at the DCA ABC weekend in 2003 a week before his sudden death.

Apparently investors liked the streaming news. Disney's stock price shot to an all-time high this week.... In the midst of a global pandemic with its Parks & Resorts division tanking.
From an investor's point of view there's nothing not to like.

Disney is heavily investing in the future of home entertainment, i.e., streaming. And it has the brand, contents, and studio power to become a global powerhouse. It's ahead of all other media companies in that regard. And it's way ahead of its own and the industry's projections.

There's enough income from the current linear channels (how ironic) and money in the bank and lines of credit to stay far away from bankruptcy until worldwide vaccinations bring back in-person entertainment, which Disney is good at and very profitable.

Compare that to other businesses.

In six months the world will be ruled by Disney and Amazon.

Yep, in one fell swoop Chapek/Iger have managed to navigate the choppy waters of the pandemic to avoid having the Titanic (a movie they partially own) hit the iceberg causing the ship to sink.

EU books and comics to me feel much more subdued than making 15TV Shows and 10 films in a 10 year time span.

Everyone's different, but this does ruin the series for me.

I didn't like Lucas overdoing things either tbh.
Shows and films you haven’t seen yet have ruined the series for you?

The volume of output for them ruins the specialness of the movie and story.

Some grew up with Star Wars being 3 movies and a couple of arcade games. It was more special before they ruined it.

Despite what our corporate overlords want us to think, it is possible to be a fan of a series and not like every entry and every piece of merchandise.

For example, say someone liked Snow White. Is it reasonable to say that they could be overwhelmed if 10 Snow White TV shows and 5 new Snow White movies were announced?

Is it reasonable to say you can like Snow White without wanting to know the detailed backstory of each and every character in the movie?

When did Star Wars go from a trilogy to an encyclopedia?

There is a saying people forget which is "too much of a good thing is a bad thing".
I take your point. I’m a huge Star Wars fan, but I think it’s entirely reasonable (and common) for someone to be a fan of, say, the original trilogy but not the prequels, or to love everything except The Last Jedi or whatever.

But some of the new stuff is (in my opinion) actually really good! So when I hear there’s going to be new shows/films in the Star Wars universe, I won’t automatically say it’s going to be bad because I have reason to think it might be quite good.

And part of the reason it seems like Star Wars is an encyclopedia is because fantasy (and Science Fiction, which Star Wars isn’t, but has been influenced by) typically include a lot of worldbuilding, full of things like original languages, technology, lore, locations, and history. These things make the story feel richer, so many fans enjoy the films more when they learn the backstories and details.

The best part about Star Wars is how the story is enjoyable even if you don’t get into all the details.

I’m hopeful that these new Disney and Marvel shows will take just a different enough approach that they appeal to a broader variety of audiences and bring more people to the Star Wars fandom. I love Star Wars, and I want more people to love it, too!

I'm wondering why the Mandalorian needs two spinoffs when they could just make more episodes of the Mandalorian person than 8 per season.

Other than inflating the perceived quantity of content on Disney+.

It’s because Disney’s new strategy is to do lots of smaller projects aimed at a variety of sub-audiences. In theory, smaller (shorter in length, cheaper in cost) means they can go deeper with higher-quality content (no need for broadcast TV’s season arcs, with filler episodes, mid-season breaks, etc.).

This isn’t super groundbreaking. Look at how Netflix handled the Marvel shows they produced: Daredevil, Iron Fist, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Punisher each had their own stylistically unique short series, and then they teamed up for the Defenders miniseries.

The Mandalorian is a western. I’d look for Rangers of the New Republic and Ahsoka to have different look/feel/tone/style to them and appeal to different segments of the fan base. I’d also expect some crossover stuff to tie them all together.
