The Disney difference

Do you agree or not:

... with my assumption of the following:

If Universal Studios (with IOA) disappeared tommorow, Disney attendance would probably stay flat or slightly decline.

If Disney Orlando were to disappear tommorow, Universal attendance would probably be slashed in half or greater.

This is all in my opinion, but lets get real here. Doesnt everyone believe that a trip to Universal is probably in most cases "part" of a week's Disney vacation, or just a 1-2 day diversion?

Other than locals, how many people actually make an entire vacation to go to USF/IOA?

universal is definitely just an extra on our trips to disney... and sometimes we don't even bother... same with sea world... we love them both, but disney is our true passion and our main objective... we definitely wouldn't spend the time/money to go down if disney were not there.....

I have been to US 1x in my whole life... and I don't care if I never go back again... I do like IOA though, and usually take 1 day out of my Disney vacation to go there. I like City Walk too... but Disney is definitely the biggest part of my FL vacations! :)

If I didnt live here I could easily come just for universal... Infact even if I did go to disney It would be an extra... Universal is my "home" park but I love disney and universal together.. I dont getin huge arguments about how universals theme sucks or disney has no thrills ... I just like both what can i say:D

Primarily, I think most people view Universal as maybe a day or two out of an Orlando vacation. This is primarily because, I think 1) I think Disney's Quality is higher than Universal and 2) there is just a lot more to do at WDW than at Universal (compare 4 parks, 2 entertainment districts, 2 water parks, 2 mini golf courses, a sports complex, however many golf courses they have, ect. at WDW with the two parks and 1 entertainment district at Universal). Also, as far as I can tell, Universal does have attractions quite as unique as the ones at WDW. There are exceptions such as Spiderman, but many are just themed versions of what you can find at just about any Six Flags. Nothing like PoC, ToT, or IASW that you can't find anywhere else.

Our last vacaction was a Disney only trip.. however; the two before that were Universal only trips.. we find it a nice change from all the "hustle and bustle" of Disney... and begin that we've in our last teens just as exciting for us... in fact on our second last vacation Disney "Epcot" was a one day diversion (as everyone has been calling it)... I thoroughly enjoy both parks though.....:animwink:

Disney is the hot spot, to take a vacation with the family. It's just Universal dosn't have "Magic" in the parks like Disney. Universal you can do in about 2 days. Disney you haved to spend a week to do everything there.

I think it would stay the same b/c most people go to WDW and spend a few days at Universal. I doubt very many people vacation to florida (from other states) and just go to Universal. Then again, I might be wrong.

we go to USF/IoA and SW once every...five years. Disney may not change a lot, but it changes each year...USF...no big change there. also, IoA has a LOT of water rides, if it's too cool for those, all the others are gonna be booked solid. why waste my time there or USF for a total of 5-6 rides? disney everyday, all day.

The last time we were in Florida we did Universal Studios and IOA only. But that is not the norm. Usually we spend the majority of time at Disney and maybe a day or two at Universal. I've still never been to Sea World (But I've been to the one in San Diego...Is the Florida one much different? Just curious.)

Anyway, even though I think both Universal parks are outstanding, they clearly owe the majority of their attendance to the existence of Disney. If Disney were to suddenly disappear I think Universal's attendance would probably drop so dramatically, they would probably go out of business. I just don't know of many people who say, "We're going to Florida just to go to Universal." If Universal were to disappear, I think it would hurt Disney's business to some degree, only because for some people, Universal is one more reason to plan a trip to Florida.
