I thought i was the only one that loved the smell of Florida water :) My hubby always laughs at me because of how excited i get when I turn on the faucet when we get there. For me, nothing says we're at Disney more than the water...just don't drink it lol

Finally, someone brought up the "smell" of Florida water! I've noticed it from my very first visit (1992), and most people I've talked to about it don't seem to notice the smell. Proof at last! I am NOT crazy....and I actually can't stand the smell by the way.

As for my favorite subtle nuances:

--The floating candle hallway in The Haunted Mansion....I've always wanted to exit my Doom Buggy and walk down that "hallway" and explore the hidden vastness that MUST exist down there. The Mansion is my favorite ride.
--Riding It's A Small World and watching my kids' faces...pure magic.
--The music in the Space Mountain queue.
--The relaxing feeling I get while riding the People Mover.
--Donald's butt in Philharmagic
--The Pavlovian response to seeing those ginormous turkey legs....I have still never bought one, but wow they look good
--The Spanish safety announcement in the monorial
--The beauty of the Grand Floridian main lobby
--Soarin'...I don't care how badly it needs to be updated, or how many people complain here about it. A good portion of my life was spent in California, and it just takes me back to when I first met my wife....

I could keep goin'......

The horseshoe and carriage tracks in the pavement in NFL. The music in general in all of the parks. Cast members smiling and waving at you (usually with Mickey gloves) as you enter/leave the parks.

Boy I wish I was there right now! :)

I bought that perfume for my wife and we both absolutely love it!
We've been buying it since we took our first trip as DH/DW in 1998, love it! Just by chance, we met Geir on our anniversary trip in the fall of 2013 when we went to make our annual buy. We had our pictures taken with him and he signed some stuff for us too. I remember because they had just released the scent for men when I commented to my DW "For as great as Laila is, this stuff is horrible!" when a CM came up to us and said "Uh sir, the creator of the fragrance is right over there!" At first I thought she was kidding, but nope he had a scheduled meet and greet and we were in the middle of it! Fortunately for me, he didn't hear my comment and was very cool to talk and interact with.

Hello gentle tourist friends. Please allow me, as a Floridian, to enlighten you concerning the fallacy stated in your posts regarding our water here in the Sunshine State. You see, we don't drink the water because we don't like it's aromatic qualities either. It's just that we know the problem is not with the water itself. Florida's water is pure, divinely sanctioned, thirst quenching loveliness. It's the alligator urine that taints its reputation. So please, say all that you will against the prehistoric reptilian beasts, but don't spread these awful lies about the water.

As a Seminole, I agree with your source of the aroma of Florida water. :)

However, as a resident of North Florida, I must state categorically that the water in Central and South Florida, especially Tampa, does have a none too pleasant odor, primarily due to salt water intrusion since the water is being pumped out faster than it is replenished through the aquifer. Which is why the occasional South Florida legislator brings up a bill to pump water from us up here in Southern Georgia down to y'all in Southern New York. Oh, and we have better beaches up here, too! ;)

The Florida water has been a part of my life since I was a kid. It's not necessarily a pleasant smell, but it's unmistakable Disney for me and thus, it's a great smell.

The Haunted Mansion is also my favorite ride.

  • That smell of fresh popcorn as you walk down Main Street.
  • The aroma that is unique to the lobby at the Grand Floridian - I wish they'd bottle it for sale.
  • The Castle at night during Christmas.
  • The mist at the top of the track on Thunder Mountain
  • Coming to the abrupt stop at the broken track on Everest (and hoping when you see the track the car DOES stop. New E-Ticket ride at Animal Kingdom - the Everest Ride into Space!)
  • And yes, the pungent and unique aroma that is the water in Splash Mountain. I've learned to quickly shut my mouth going down the drop unless I want a mouthful of that water.
  • The fragrance of the orange groves and pine forest in Soarin' - makes me homesick every time. And seeing the Matterhorn makes me misty-eyed.

The smell of Florida water? Seriously? At the CR we're always welcomed by the overwhelming smell of sulfur each time we turn on a shower. Each visit I keep hoping they will find a filter for that, but nothing yet. Maybe there is better smelling water somewhere else in Florida.

That being said:
  • The smell of popcorn on Main St.
  • The smell of Splash Mountain (maybe caused by the smell of Florida water??)
  • The smell of orange groves on Soarin. I remember when there were actual orange groves in Kissimmee.
  • The sounds of the buses, ferry whistles and train whistles heard at the CR as the Magic Kingdom comes to life in the morning.
  • The Vultures in Splash Mountain just before the drop.
  • Riding the Resort Launches around Bay Lake early in the morning just to relax.

I have to say, it's become a smell I love.
