LOOKING FOR DEAGAN ORGAN CHIMES
The Dapper Dans of Disney World need help. They are a performing group that plays in the park each day. As part of the act they use Deagan Organ Chimes. They asked us if we knew anyone willing to sell an old set of the chimes. We did some research and found out more about the chimes. They were patented in 1901 by John Calhoun Deagan, who made them at his Deagan Manufacturing Company in Chicago. He considered them a "novelty instrument." The music is made by shaking the chimes. The largest set was set up on two floor racks--10 chimes in the top row, 18 on the bottom. The tallest chimes are 7 feet. The original chimes were $650 for a large set, a high price in the early 1900s. They were sold until the early 1920s. At least one chime in a set should be marked "J.C. Deagan, Pat., May 21, 1901." So you don't get confused, compare your chimes to the picture of the chimes shown here.
