I thought News from Polynesia was going to become the Wyland Gallery, with the old shop area becoming the expanded food court.

I remember when News from Polynesia was called "News from Civilization," which made more sense, I thought: if you are in Polynesia, then you want news from "civilization"... But I guess it was changed to be politically correct, since it might imply that Polynesia is not "civilized"....

Anyone know when the name officially changed, and if they gave a reason? I am sure that it was at least 5 or maybe 10 years ago.

I hope this doesn't happen! I really love the F & F C and my wife and I go everytime we are at Disney. I also love the Outer Rim and I think it is perfect the way it is. I know I'm generally pesomistic about change but this really bothers me, there is alot of nostalgic value with me when it comes to the CR. The F & F C may be small but what it lacks in size it makes up for in service and variety. It is seldom OVER crowded and it is the first thing I think of when WDW pops in my mind. I hope your sources are wrong Speck.

Good lord, I hated that arcade. The Contemporary's back office shares a wall with it and when it was quiet backstage you could hear beeping and banging and the Star Wars game. :hammer:

Enlarge Chef Mickey's...that would be great (and easy since there's barely a wall between them as well).
The steakhouse (and bar) would probably fit well on the 1st floor away from the kids of Chef Mickey's and bustle of the Monorail traffic.
The arcade could be moved to fill the entire center area to the north of the elevators. This area was sometimes used for pin trading, which could easily be moved anywhere. This area, aside from a small vending cart is unused and wasted and LARGE. The arcade would then be integrated with the stores (attracting kid and parent traffic into them), and I imagine that a small quick food stand could be added somewhere. Perhaps the bar area, if it's not also converted to additional Chef Mickey space. The back of the north elevator shaft would make a good area for a ticket redemption area, overlooking the whole gaming area.

It should be noted that the (smaller) arcades in all the value resorts also give out game tickets.

The GCH rehab isn't nearly done. It is a very extensive rehab with the main part dealing with the food court. All the shops that were in the back (The mens and womens store, and I think News from Polynesia) are all going to become part of the food court. They are expanding it to accomodate the amount of people that the resort now holds.
Awesome! Thanks for that! I was really hoping they weren't already done with the GCH, because it was going to look silly having two newly refurbed spaces in an otherwise old-looking building. And, from what I had read in the Disney Magazine (or somewhere) the rehab was going to be rather large, and I thought if that was all they were planning on doing, their definition of extensive must be much different than mine! But I'm very pleased to hear they have a lot more in the works! I can't wait to see the finished product!

Wouldn't the Biggest arcade actually be Disney Quest, even though disney doesn't call it an arcade?

That's because we are not an arcade, we and an "Indoor Interactive Theme Park." ;)

i hope they don't cause even though i haven't been to the steakhouse, it must have an aewsome view. to replace it with an arcade would be silly, i highly doubt the kids there would appreciate the view while playing mortal combat or something
