If allowed (and it's possible that a merger of this size very well might run afoul of anti-trust acts), what do you think the effects on the parks would be, if any?
The Comcast/ Time Warner Merger- How will it affect the parks?
Actually, Time Warner Cable is the company Comcast bought, and they have no affiliation with Time Warner. They splintered off in '09.Really. You think the parent company of Uni suddenly owning the IPs of things like Looney Tunes and DC is not going to have ANY effect whatsoever?
Maybe, MAYBE, a slight tightening of the purse strings till this investment sees some returns,
Really. Perhaps I follow the wrong news but I thought Time Warner Cable was finically in rough shape and poor customer standing due to dropping channels such as the weather channel.Comcast has said the deal will have an immediate impact on cash flow. They expect immediate returns.
As for the parks? Well, it's even more money flowing into the parent company. That's never a bad thing for the parks.
You might be right. I don't follow Cable industry that well.I think it was Directv who dropped the weather channel. It was replaced by some other weather channel that charges less.
Thank you for clarifying that.I am a Time Warner customer. I am bracing myself for the impact on cable bill. I think Comcast customers will be impacted also. Time Warner offers the weather channel in there second tier package. I think it is direct tv that does not have weather channel.
Again, letting a cable deal impact NBCUniversal would be a waste of the money spent to acquire NBCUniversal in the first place.Comcast will massively increase their debt in the deal. Immediately they will look for cost savings to offset it. Slowing down their cash commitment to the parks will absolutely be a consideration. Theme parks are a huge drain on cash flow.
All of that said, I think the parks are safe for now. They clearly have supporters in executive leadership.
